Have been reading information from this site for about 2 years now and finally decided to join. I have 3 Bard Rock hens and 2 roosters, 1 Cayuga drake, 1 White Laying hen, 1 Welsh Harlequin hen, and 1 quail hen and 1 quail male. I do plan on expanding the ducks once I get the pen here in a few months.

I am not new to having animals or fowl, but am new to raising primarily for eggs. I have a lot still left to learn because growing up I really only new about 5 different species of ducks, 8 breeds of chickens. So I am still learning about all of the different breeds and what are bred and raised for which reasons.

I also chose to join because I have a question that concerned me a bit. I gathered eggs yesterday and today when I went to fry some up, I got a surprise when I cracked the egg into my pan. Here is the picture I took of the egg with blood in it.

Welcome to BYC - so glad you've joined us. I love your avatar picture, is it of eggs from your birds?
As to the blood in the egg -- I took a look at the link and while finding something like that can be disturbing when you have it happen to you, it isn't *that* concerning. There are all sorts of surprises that you can find in eggs - until/unless you notice it becoming a pattern rather than an oddity there's not much to worry about.

I agree! I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it happens all the time. I have cracked open store bought eggs before there was red dots. A lot like blood. We just tossed it :)

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Thank you for the information. Yes, my avatar is a picture of the eggs from my birds. White are my duck, red are my bard rocks, and small ones came from the quail. Now I just need to know which duck laid the egg so I can keep an eye out.
 
Thank you for all of the help and greetings everyone. I will be sure to fallow post and better myself as a bird grower. I do not know if there is a term for people who are all about farm birds.
