More reason aw, imagine the brilliant puppies she would have had. When I bought my (eventual stud dog) 3 mos. male from a top breeder - he was something else. We had a wooden dog gate to keep him in the kitchen.

He threw his toy over the gate, jumped over the gate- got the toy and returned with it. He never went into the other rooms and never messed there. Just figured out how to enjoy myself without the help of humans. I wonder if his breeders didn't give him enough attention.

Later in the kennel, he would nudge the indoor stall gate to see if it was latched securely. If he wasn't he would come out, lift his leg on everything in the kennel (really just a few drops at each spot) and return to his stall.

When I saw that I would pretend holler at him, he would wait for me to smile(couldn't help it)- then he was jumping up on his gate and pushing a toy over the top. When he ate he set the toy down near the dish. When he went out (in/out swinging door) to do this business, the toy came too.

My last 3 Cockers of different ages 2 females and 1 male) died at 14. Still much too young.Haven't gotten another dog since. Can't afford vet bills and my health bills as well :hit
 
She is 13 . Sounds like yours was a ton of fun. See, Star was so well behaved she actually is no fun at all. Oh she will roll on her back and looks like she is riding a bike for my son and play fetch w/ him but refused to ever play w/ me. She was a rescue, all my animals are . My cousin bought one and I fell in love and wanted one too. The man said they were all gone but he called 2 weeks later and said a woman that bought one didnt want it and or me to come pick her up. I got there she had a huge chain on her neck and was attached to a tree covered in snow. That was the last time she was ever mistreated.

I think mine are american, but I'd have to dig up the ckc paper one has. their mother was akc and in her line there was clear inbreeding, she wasnt a healthy dog at all and clearly had been abused with the way she acted. my sister had adopted her, along with several others, and bred them. it wasnt something I supported, but since I was only 14 I think, I didnt exactly get any say in what she did. and of course when I seen kismet, I wanted her. kismet and tinsel are 1 year apart, same parents. when kizzy was born, she wasnt breathing because her mother had her in the backyard and didnt tear the sac, we only looked outside because she had run in the house and had a puppy on the floor. after we found the two outside, we only were able to revive one, kizzy, and what was worse is the mother started trying to eat the puppies themselves. I think it's because she was abused, but it was very odd. my sister held her down for them to nurse and eventually she stopped trying to eat them. my sister continued to breed her though, the second litter was completly eaten as my sister left her in her house unmonitored, and she even killed and tried to eat an older 8 week old puppy that was in the house. my sister finally stopped trying to breed them, but I think only because several died from her neglect since she moved in with her bf and left them unattended. the third and last litter included tinsel and only survived because my mother and I kept watch while my sister left again. we made sure she was fixed after that since my sister pretty much abandoned her 'project'. unfortunately my sister never had much empathy for animals and still does similar things, I dont really understand it. kizzy went blind around 3 years old, and later had to get an eye removed due to the cataract swelling. she has gastrointestinal issues every few months, and tinsel has joint issues and kidney/bladder stones. both of course I had spayed and theyve never had a litter, I didnt want to pass on their genes. I'm not sure who we got the mother from, but we live in alabama, the father was a puppy she got from one of her bfs parents and had no papers.
I'm glad your cocker is healthy! and such smart dogs you all have, kizzy was a very smart girl, she knew several tricks including play dead when I say 'bang' like a gun. she can still do some of the tricks, but some were visual cues that she cant see now. tinsel.. was never one for learning lol, but she at least comes on command for the most part and insists on sleeping in her box of toys. frisk is my shining star, and I've never had health issues with her.
I'm afraid kismet may not live too many more years, shes slowing down a lot and sometimes wont eat. I'm having to start wetting her food because shes having a hard time eating. I'm not sure what I'll do when she dies, I've had her for 10 years and I cant imagine what itll be like not having her around.
 
Thank you Zydrate, I do love my Star. Aka Nothern star . I am so sorry about the way your pups came into this world ! Im also glad you and your mom got the chance to stop the breeding.
I had a cat once that also ate her kittens but they came too soon and I think(not sure) that is the way of cats but the surprising part was she had more kittens 2 weeks later !
 
thats a wonderful name, my dad has a lab named star, but he named her after that cartoon, star butterfly.
oh wow, that's so odd, I wonder if that's common in cats(to have more so soon after)? I know the kittens can have multiple fathers in one litter, and I seen a story about a human woman who had two babies that were of different conception ages in her womb at the same time, I cant remember why or how though, but maybe that cat was similar, unless it's common and all cats have that possibility.
 
I think what happened is maybe she had too many to carry. She was small and a first (and only) litter and she just couldnt hold them all. She was still pregnant after she had the first ones. She just didnt have them all. Weird hu?
The woman had 2 uteruses I remember that !!
