Introduction to the site, would love peoples input :)

Welcome to BYC! It's wonderful that you rescued those sweet hens, I hope they'll reward your kindness with eggs in the future. HAve you thought about getting a friend for your duck? She might get lonely.
We have been finding eggs around the place from some of them on a regular enough basis sure enough! We did think she was looking lonely after the other one passed, the other one was always livelier and much more willing to come right up to anyone whereas this one always held back more, sat on eggs a few times and reluctantly came over after the other one. So when my mam saw the post about the rescue hens we thought we'd get some to keep her company.
At first, she seemed not in the least bit interested but after a few days she was wandering around with them and scratching away (we think showing them foraging) and leading them into the shed at night. She has taken to staying in there with them voluntarily, something she refused to do for years. We think she's taken on a "Mammy" role and she keeps them in line with warning quacks too :D

Nice! It sounds like it is going well, then.

Welcome! It's always great to hear about people like yourself rescueing and caring for ex battery hens. It sounds like yours are doing well.

I hope you will feel free to join in the conversations in the forums and also to ask any questions you might have.
Thank you, it's great to see them coming on and getting more and more confident.
I have posted a question about one of the hens, she seems a bit under the weather at the moment.

So far mostly good, they no longer run away and jump a mile at every movement. Most of them will even feed from a hand when we do it. They are establishing a pecking order which isn't the most fun thing to see as at times it looks like they are bullying one another with pecks and chasing away or pulling feathers. One is looking a bit poorly though so we'll keep an eye on her.

Glad you joined! You’ve come to the right place… lots of good information here.
I found this article the other day and you may find it helpful:

Chicken Bully/Chicken Victim

Wish you the best with your new flock!!

Time, patience, and good food usually brings them around fairly quick. Especially the food part. If you offer some mealworms they may learn to come close and take them from your hand.
That sounds like a good idea, at the moment they will come to the door looking for some attention and food because they know we have a small food tub inside, from when it was just the duck and we didn't want her feeling lonely. Some of them will almost fall over each other to get at it whereas others will be told off by the higher up chickens and be a bit more cautious.
