Hi I'm not totally new to backyard chickens in fact I've had them for a while but I have noticed on one of my old chickens she has one swollen leg. She's had it for a couple of weeks but now she's started to limp. I don't see any open areas of black areas as describe in bumble foot. Scales seem to be raised. Any suggestions. I'm getting new layer in the beginning of August so I didn't want anything contagious in the flock.

Welcome aboard! :frow Can you post a few pics of her leg?
We are glad you joined our flock.

Her one leg is badly affected, raised scales, swollen. Please post photo and full details at "Emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread. Poor thing needs treatment.

I had a hen who tore a ligiment in one of her legs, we isolated her for 4-6 weeks where she could see her flock mates, and one morning she made sounds like she was crying when the others were going to a different area to free range. So we let her out and she was fine. She just needed a rest so she could heal. The leg was limp, and she couldn't put weight on it when we isolated her. There was no swelling or lifted scales on feet (could be lice on feet, if so coat her feet all the way up to the drumstick with vasoline each night when she goes to bed)
