Hi! I'm a new member, and it recommended me to introduce myself so I thought "why not?" I'm currently raising a week old chick and I also have a rooster outside who I believe is a Plymouth Rock. I am not sure of my chick's gender or breed as there are a ton more chickens outside we don't own, but technically only the chick and rooster are ours. I just started raising my chick about 5 days ago and the rooster is taken care of along with the other chickens. I'm really here to get tips to make sure my chick grows up happy and healthy, so thanks for taking the time to read this.

Interesting.... who owns the other chickens outside? A neighbor? Do they go home and roost in a coop?

You might want to get a friend for your little chick, it would be so much happier to grow up with it's own kind. Chickens are very social animals and eventually, after it's grown, will probably join the others... and single birds do not fare well entering an established flock. Would be much easier to have at least 1 or 2 buddies that band together for protection and company.

Our landlord actually owns the other chickens, we are renting a house on a business property with a coop outside. I do definitely want another chick but I got this one from its mother at a young age and all of the others have already become attatched to their mother, so would it be okay to separate them? I do feel bad having the chick alone but at the same time I don't want to separate another from its mother, mine is so young that it attatched to me instead. Also, thanks for the introduction!
