Introduction

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

I don't believe in trimming beaks either, however the beaks should grow back over the next 4 to 6 months or so. Beaks are made of the same thing our fingernails are and continue to grow all throughout their lives. You might dampen your layer feed in small tubs to make it easier for them to pick up the food for a while. Only dampen what they will eat in one day, don't hold over wet food for the next day.

Good luck with your new birds and welcome to our group! :)

Hello Dazz172.
Welcome to BYC.
I've had rescue hens here with butchered beaks. They can't keep themselves clean when their beaks are badly cut. You can with care and patience gently file their beaks back to a more useful shape. It took me months.
Beak trimming and spur cutting are imo barbaric practices.

Welcome to BYC! I hope you'll feel free to join in the conversations and ask any questions you might have. Beak trimming isn't needed in most cases-- it's done on commercial birds because commercially housed birds don't have the opportunity to peck around as much, and this can lead to their beaks becoming too long, and dysfunctional. I have no idea why a private breeder would do it. But your birds sound like they are happy and healthy, and that is what is most important.
