It's some website that sells chicks, and I guess the adopt a chick option is the ones that would likely be culled otherwise.
Oh, I see. The chicks that are normally culled are cockerels (males). Nothing wrong with them except they'll be crowing at about 5 months old and they won't lay eggs. As long as you don't have any females around, they probably won't start fighting.

I started with a prefab coop too. Even though the box was labeled to fit 9 hens, it actually wasn't big enough to house more than 3, which is what I had, but I still thought it was too small and so I let them out in the yard all day to free range. After a couple years I finally built a bigger one so I could get more chickens!

It's supposed to be a mix. I'm hoping for more hens than roosters though.
