(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’ve just started raising chickens with my family this year, so I am a complete newbie to all of this. I got my chickens around May or so as chicks, so they are still very young.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Right now I have nine. So far we’re sure that we have seven hens and two roosters, but one is a bit ambiguous as to what they are, so I’m hoping to find help here.
(3) What breeds do you have? Again, this is something I’d like to get help with here as I don’t know a couple of them, but I know one of my roosters in an Olandsk Dwarf (his name is Pumpkin because as a chick he looked like one) and a Belgian Antwerp D’anver (which we have named Peeps). Two of my hens are Cuckoo Marans (Poppy and Pepper) and three that are some kind of golden variation that I’m not sure of (Ginger, Sugar, and Cinnamon).
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I think so far it’s been fun and very sweet to watch them grow up and become grown chickens. They look more and more like adult chickens everyday and its just so crazy to me how they can grow so fast.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I do a lot of sewing, embroidery, crafts, etc and I play the bass, both types of guitar (electric and acoustic) and the piano.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I live in a family of five and have a Lemon Beagle named Spot and a cockatiel named Midnight.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? I came across this website multiple times when searching things up regarding my chickens—I’m the type of person who looks everything up to be sure. I knew about it for maybe a month before I came across it again and decided that it might be hopeful to involved in a community that knows a whole lot more than I do about raising backyard chickens. I also had a lot of questions that are more specific than the threads here so I thought, why not? It’ll be helpful and will help me know more about my chickens, so I joined.
