It sounds like a weasel. Ive read that they can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks. Thanks for the welcome!
Unfortunately, today I found #13 headless in the middle of my run at around 2 p.m. There was no blood at all, no feathers, no other injuries, and no signs of attack. The run is made of 1/4" hardware cloth all the way round and fully enclosed on all 6 sides. Nothing left open, no gaps or holes at all, and the body was in the center of the run, so I have no clue what could have attacked in the middle of the day.
I actually found this site trying to figure out what happened and how to protect the remaining 12, and you've all been very helpful already!
Yep, solid metal roof. Checked the entire run again for any weak points today, but nope! It really is a mystery, thankfully no one else was lost today.Hello and welcome to BYC!Glad you joined.
Sorry for your loss.
Does your run have a solid roof on it?
A few mentioned it might be a ferret in the thread I started, but no one I've spoken to thought we could have them in this area, but honestly it seems like pretty much nothing could have gotten into the run, so I might have to buy it. It's getting dark here, so I'll have to take some tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion! It sounds like a weasel. Ive read that they can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks.
Can you post some pictures of your run and coop? That may give us a clue as to where it came through.
