Introduction

Glad to meet you. What a nice coop you built there! Best wishes!

Just in case... because critters can dig beneath the edges of your coop, and I can't tell from the wonderful photo if you have hardware cloth apron bordering the coop.

To look for articles on your own:

A. Use the SEARCH button, but use the Advanced Search choice, and select ARTICLES at the top of the box. Just enter your keyword(s) and scroll through your results!

B. I find it helpful to notice the rating and reviews. All articles are by BYC members, and all the reviews/ratings are as well. The ratings help a newbie like me sort the most useful and reliable articles.

C. You can bookmark the articles or posts you think you want to refer to again using that bookmark icon at the top of articles or posts. You can find them again by clicking on your own avatar and looking at the list of bookmarks you have built up!

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.

Hello from Turkey Springs, a small hobby farm in beautiful NE Tennessee. My love affair with chickens began 3 years ago when I adopted four Maran hens and a mean rooster named Felipe. Since then I have learned a lot...especially about predation! We have all the sharp of teeth and claw in our neck of the woods. Who knew a raccoon could reach in through a small gap and strangle a bird before pulling it out piece by piece? Who knew a hawk could snack a free ranging pullet right in front of your eyes! Well, now I do!!! I currently have a small flick of 3 hens and three NICE roosters, Marans, Dominiques and a Buff Orpington. All rescues. (BTW, we ate Felipe. A hard but necessary lesson. No a**holes allowed to tyrannize the yard!) I have some sex linked and Buff chicks on order for March. In addition, I have two Bourbon Red turkey hens. I built this hoop coup for Christmas based on many ideas from this site that I found on Pinterest. I also raise meat rabbits. View attachment 3399156
