Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

They are lovely!  Definitely the top photo of the black feathered head is the Iowa/Ameraucana cross :)  The Iowa has the white head and patterned body feathers.  Enjoy them :)

Thanks for the reply, do you think both are crosses or one of each? The one with the white head looks like a Iowa blue to me, but her legs are willow. That makes me think she is a cross too? I don't know...maybe their eggs will tell me.

It looks like the top is the cross between the two breeds and depending on the age, looks like a pullet. The bottom looks like 100 percent Iowa to me and another pullet. Did you get the birds from Connie?

The Iowa has willow legs and is something that we are trying to breed out. The standard developed by the committed is calling for slate grey colored legs. Many of my Iowa's have the willow legs. My charcoal and smokeys have slate to silver legs. My birchens have black and I only have a couple of silvers. Both of my silvers including my rooster have willow legs.

My avatar picture is of our top rooster "JB" (named JuneBug), who is a charcoal

Excellent. Thanks for the info. We can only have hens in my town, so I'm really hoping for pullets. My flock of 7 Will be all different breeds if one is a cross and one is a pure. Cool! I had to go back to my emails and look....but yes, Connie if who I got the chicks from. I got to see both her beautiful flocks.
