Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

Had another bird get sick. Drove it to Ames and gave them 50 dollars. They got back to me 36 hrs later, an intestinal parasite which led to liver infection. They ran a lot of tests and really did a thorough job. I got a treatment plan, and feel like it will work out. Thanks for the help, I would have never thought of going to Ames.

The parasite is coccidiosis. It is from wild birds feces. It causes a liver infection which is when I would see symptoms. All my birds have it. The vet at ISU recommended two wormers, I am not sure it is a wormer, it is given the same way as a wormer though. One ounce to 2 gallons of water for 7 days. My local vet got the birds on something based on ISU's recomendations.

It took the smaller birds, only one rooster. I lost 2 at about 6 weeks then thought it was over, then lost 4 at 9 and 10 weeks before I went to ISU. If you want to create some theory no smokeys were taken, even though some are small.

I've done all I can, and I think it will clear. I still feel OK with the birds I have. I feel like this took those small ones that I would want to keep only because of their color. The best ones are still there.
