Iowa Blues - Breed thread and discussion

It's good to hear Gandalf is handing in there. It can be a tough decision whether to put them down or not....it can be hard to tell how much pain they are in. Keep us posted on his recovery.

I've got a few pics to share. Enjoy!

I'm well pleased with this group of birds. They've got great substance and size. It's easy to see the depth of breast and fulness of the abdomen. I'm excited to watch these birds finish maturing out. The oldest are around 10 months old, the youngest (including the cockerel) are 7 months old. I've got a lot of willow legs in this new bunch, but I've got a few slate legs in there too so it shouldn't take too long to get that culled out. They sure are fun to watch as they do about their business.

SIMPLY DELIGHTFUL!

A couple of weeks ago, I went down to the barn to find this beautiful sight. The ladies have really been busy right now and this picture proves they mean business.

They are all lovely!

I will love to order some hatching eggs from you when you are ready :)

No, I see that the way I worded it makes it sound like they were broody. I had 7 eggs out of 8 pullets that day. They've been shelling out the eggs like crazy, so it's been fun to see those nesting boxes full of hens.
thats wonderful! My 3 Iowa girls are good for about 5 eggs each a week during the warmer weather.

tee hee... you made a funny...you said "shelling" out eggs

So am I the only one showing birds again?

Hannah will be showing. She has also been selected to deliver a presentation on the IB's by her Counties Fair!
If we can't have a program, we can still have a show and maybe meet for a meeting?
Kari, if you bring enough birds, we can show them under my name as well. We are staying outside of Living History Farms this year and I am planning on a visit there to see Tony Kuehn, who is interested in a flock for next year.
If we can't get enough folks for a good old fashion promotions then we can still have a show to fill the requirements and get Living History Farms excited about the breed enough to maybe get some news coverage set up for that event next Spring? We can also have some paper info on the IB's on a table.
Kari would you please PM me?
Eric
