Iowa Blues Chicken Club (IBCC) - Breed Standard Discussion / Club Discussion

I agree the hens should have an 80 degree tail too. I see more pinched tails in my birds than open. Even the rooster I had posted above usually carries his tail more closed.

Especially the 1/2 Ameraucana 1/2 IB. You'd think the AMs would work against that effect since they have such well spread tails themselves.

This is one of the more open ones. I have to say though, I love these girls. They are super tiny, eat very little andl ay lots of bright blue eggs.

REVAMP:

MALE
TAIL: Medium length, full, broad feathered, carried at an angle of eighty degrees (80˚) above horizontal.
Main Tail – Overlapping, slightly spread, of even length and blunt tipped
Sickles – Moderate in length
Lesser Sickles and Coverts – Moderate, extending onto main tail
FEMALE
TAIL: Slightly spread, dense, broad, blunt tipped feathers, carried at an angle of eighty degrees
(80˚
) above horizontal.

Boards were a serious pain in the rear, now to await the results. Apparently around 15% pass on the first time in all three parts. Can only hope for the best, and at least have some experience to guide studying for next year's testing. :p

Looks good. We don't have many commenting.

I think we need to see pictures of birds that come close to the ideal posted. I don't think my birds have the tails described. I've posted mine - show me yours!

I guess thats just it. I don't think any of my Iowa Blues have tails like the description. Hurley and mrheinz77, do you have any birds to show?

Unfortunately no, not right now, at least not the male. He got his tail damaged by another male, so not much to see there.

I'm just making suggestions for the wording based on what I saw in your (everyone's) pictures. Do you have a suggestion for rewording?

BTW, found out this weekend that I did indeed pass the surgical boards, so WOOT, I can put some time into getting my breeding pens finished and populated this spring. :)
