Can someone tell me if 1" chicken wire is small enough to use with chicks, or can they fit through it? We have an old dog kennel I was going to line the bottom of with 1" chicken wire to use as a run during the day when they are small, but I really don't want to be chasing 25 baby chick around to the back yard if they can get out.

I think they would be able to fit through that for the first week at least, if not a bit longer.

    They can climb through easily.

You would be better off using hardware cloth.

I agree you need to use hardware cloth.

we raise standard size brahma's and we have always used the 1in chicken wire and have never had any problems we even built our little brooder cage using it. however I dont know how it would be for a smaller breed of bird.
