Is 2 inch wire too big?

Has anyone had experience with those doors that automatically close at night? Would the 2 inch fence work with one of those?

Wait, that doesn't make sense. Being far from the house is even more reason to lock them up at night. Especially if you only have chicken wire around the run.

Only 1/2" hardware cloth will keep weasels and rats out!
Chicken wire keep chickens in (except for bantam chicks, who go right through it) and will do pretty well against raptors, but that's it.
Over the years, and disasters, many of us have upgraded our coops and runs. You can wait until deaths occur, or make things safer in the first place.
Predator control is an ongoing effort everywhere.
For bears, only electric fencing will do!

I wouldn't count on an auto door, unless you had a camera to check it.
How far away is the coop?
Also wouldn't count on even 1" chicken wire keeping weasels out.

I'm not sure how far away it is. All I know is that it isn't a pleasant walk at night!

You don't have to wait until night to lock up coop. Mine go in automatically about 45 minutes before dark.

Wear a headlight and/or take a big flashlight.
What are you afraid(?) of?
Bears? Wear a bell?

Not really afraid of anything, it's just I'd rather not go back there at night. I could lock them up at dusk though...
