Is 24" of hardware cloth tall enough for the run?

I'm using a dog kennel as a run and would like opinions as to whether 24 inches is tall enough to line the lower portion of the chainlink or if I need to use 36". The kennel is 6' tall and will have wire over the top and an apron at the bottom. Thanks!

I would think so; it should stop a coon from grabbing a bird through the wire. The coon can get higher but the bird won't.

Anyone else?

What about other predators that can climb up past the hardware cloth and slip through the chain link? I am dealing with the same issue, and am wondering how high to go.

I may be alone in my way of thinking but I would think the possibility of something reaching through the bottom of the fence would be very unlikely. Not that it could never happen but a coon is about all that could reach through and grab right? The chicken would have to come up to the edge of the fence within 6" - 8" and not be afraid... also this would all have to happen in the daylight hours(when a coon almost never hunts) or this would have to happen in the night when the chickens are never outside in the run.

Does people really have this happen often?
