is 25$ a lot for a chicken?

Well that doesn’t sound like a good deal AT ALL. I could just get Orpington chicks for somewhere between 3 and 7 each. Not high quality, but still.
sorry i just read the email he had chicks that he was not sure about the sex and he just said that hw had 9 orpington hens different colors he did not say the age

That's far too much for mixed variety birds. "all different colors" does not imply breeder quality or as he put it "show quality". To me they may have gotten birds from a breeder then let them procreate and don't actually breed them to standard. There is a huge difference. A 9 week old bird could be judged as good quality by that age but not show quality and the fact there are so few birds and different colors screams they are not from select breeding rather one cock of a variety covering other varieties. Not quite backyard mix but not 25 dollar birds either. And straight run for that price? Wow, that's a rip off.

i found some orpington hens for sale they are different colors:clap. he is asking 25$ per hen is this a lot or is it a good price? i think i am going to buy 6 but i do not know if i am getting ripped off i really want them:fl
No, I don't think that is expensive for a hen. It is a lot of work raising chicks and you also have to buy a lot of stuff that you will only use for a month or so. I think I must have spent a few hundred dollars on their stuff and food already and I have only had them for about 7-8 weeks! I would buy stuff and not like it, so I'd buy something else. I went through so many different bulbs and didn't like having them in the house around the clock so then I spent more on an outdoor set up and of course then I had to buy more lights, etc...unless I was going to bring everything in and out of the house everyday! So to answer your question, 25.00 is cheap for a hen:) The only reason I chose day olds was I wanted them to bond to me and some of the breeds I chose were not super cheap either.

Price for birds reflects what the local market can bear. That said you should pay more for high quality or rare breeds. I personally would have no problem spending up to 50 bucks on a single hen, even if she was 2 or 3 years old but she would have to be of exceeding quality for me to do so and of course I'd breed her and hatch almost every egg until she gave no more.

I just don't see anything that says these birds are of high quality or even of an actual variety.
