Is 25% too high? Angel wing maybe?

I would say 28% is way to high..I was only feeding 20% when my duck got angel wing...I wrapped him for 3 days and cut the feed back to 15% and feed lots of greens to keep them from eating to much feed...It worked..He is back with the others cant even tell...From the pic I saw it does look like angel wing...
Here is what mine looked like...

That is too high. We had some last year on the 20% and they got angel wing. We lowered it to the 16% this year and not one yet. We taped the wings up last year and now you couldn't tell otherwise.

Mrs. Turbo :

all we can offer is our experienced advice from raising hundreds of ducks a year......once we stopped feeding high protein at a certain age the angel wing stopped. When you are raising waterfowl on commercial feed you can not compare them to the "wild free range" ducks as far as protein and what they eat. Our duckings will eat feed nonstop if youlet them....the wild duck get a bug here and there...thus not as much protein as you think.

Protein in comercial feeds mainly comes from soy. Soy is not only high protein, it is estrogenic - is is affecting the hormones in the duck.
And who knows what else it does! Most soy grown anymore is GMO. Gentically modification can create all kinds of changes in the soy's molecular structure that have never been adequately tested.
So maybe the cause of angel wing is not to do directly with the protein content but from other changes in the duck's metabolism which the soy promotes.

Thanks all. My ducks do look like Xfiles' pic. They only received one small portion of the higher feed (it was 25%, not 28%) and I went out that same day and bought the grower 15%. I think I gave them bread as a treat MAYBE once, and not very much. I have been giving them weeds and thawed frozen veggies along with a little scratch grains.

Please tell me what kind of tape to use, where to find it, and how long to keep it taped. Thank you!

for ducklings you need to drop to 15% by week 4 to help prevent angel wing. I would feed the 15% grower.

That's odd, because I went into my local Purina mill to buy more duck food, and the grower that I got was 18%... Mine are on week 4... I can't get regular unmedicated 15%, only this type for ducks. It mentions Turkeys, Ducks, and Broilers on the bag and says at 30 days to start feeding to ducks until market...

I should correct the title and I will. It was 25% and I only fed them a small bit. Went out and bought the 15% and have been using that. Been trying to research angel wing and the tips aren't bent out 90 degrees. They are just holding the wings away from their bodies. Or is that how it starts?

That is how it starts and will only get worse..I used an ace bandage and wrapped him up..It was early right as I seen it so 3 full days of wrap just alittle feed at 15% no sweets, no corn as in scratch grains feed frozen peas, green beans, romaine, and kale..After 3 days I checked them and they were flat against him he is back with the 5 others who did not get it and now I cant tell which one had it...My baby mallards look too much alike...

okee dokee. I stopped the scratch grains and am just feeding the 15% along with veggies and all the greens I can find. Tomorrow I'll get some tape or ace bandages and have at it.
