is a 9 month old rooster too old to eat?

Most excellent article! Now I know why my mom's chicken always tasted so good and I have not been able to duplicate. Thanks

Looks like we will be trying our hand at butchering our first chicken. A couple of month's ago I would not have thought I could do that, but this rooster is becoming a little to aggressive for my hens and me. Time for the chopping block and some tasty home grown chicken. My daughter-in -law will be apalled, she has never had farm experience!

No, anything under 1 year is fine. Try slow cooking the rooster if your afraid of smelly taste. My grandma used to eat old hens and roosters but slow cooked them.

Even birds well over 1 can be slow cooked with no problem.. heck.. we've eaten 5 years old birds before

definitely not too old. put him in the crock pot YUMMM

X2

I ate a rather old hen that had stopped laying eggs, so pretty old, and she made some super delicious chicken and dumplings, but I did leave her simmering in the crock pot all day and then most of the next day too.

Yup.. they make the best chicken & dumplings or chicken pie

The chickens/roosters today is ancestors from a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
