Is aggression in roosters genetic?

Quote:
I disagree. I have an almost 10 lb buff ameraucana that is in my laying facility as he is too big to use for breeding. Last summer he decided one day he was going to flog me.... well that was the wrong thing to do when I had a milk jug full of water in my hands.

I proceeded to entice him to attack me and every time I gave him a severe beating with that milk jug. When he finally stopped trying to attack, I chased him down and held him to the floor for about 2-3 minutes.

For the next week I just kept and eye on him whenever I went into the coop to collect eggs. He has never tried to get me again.

And to the OP, I think it is both genetic and environmental. If a rooster loses their fear of humans then they are more likely to attack. I try not to handle the cockerels too much.
