Is anyone else getting really scared?

Sounds like a fine plan to me!

I actually had a nightmare couple of months back. It wasn't that is was such a bad dream, but that is was completely possible that it could eventually happen. I normally don't have dreams like this, so realistic.

Basically it went like this: Gas prices went so high that no one could afford to go anywhere by car, so they couldn't go to work (I live in the LA area and most people around here live 30-100 miles from where they work). Shipping trucks could no longer afford to bring in food to the stores, but that didn't matter because no one had the money to buy the food since they couldn't get to work anymore. I live on a small privet, suburban street and in my dream I basically gathered the whole neighborhood and explained that if we wanted to survive we all had to work together. I would give seeds and cuttings to each house, but first we all had to rip up the lawns and decorative plants from each house. Then, to make sure that we all shared, each house only got one type of plant and if they wanted something different they had to give a harvest of their stuff to someone else who was growing something different (this way we would be able to grow enough but no one could horde food as they can't survive on one crop alone). Then I would let everyone know I have poultry and I would try to get my hands on a rooster and a drake so that we could breed more chicks to give to people in the neighborhood. Until they had their own hens families could bring food for the chickens and receive eggs for eating. After all of this was settled we all had to swear not to tell anyone about what we were doing, because if the other neighborhoods found out we wouldn't have enough to give them and survive ourselves. So we set up Mad Max-style barricades and watch towers at the entrance to our street ... and then I woke up before there was any big fights.

I read this in the Cow/Calf Weekly this morning.

"During the Great Depression, Franklin Roosevelt said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." He went on to define that fear as the "nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance."

Roosevelt was right. It isn't the market fundamentals that present the danger; ultimately they are pretty good. It’s the concern that we will be unable to capitalize on opportunities because we’re paralyzed by uncertainty. The adage of the self-fulfilling prophecy is a double-edged sword. LOL! I would, but what I have left at that point probably won't cover the postage to send it. Starting that year it's just going to be spend, spend; burn, burn baby! JIK, I'm going to make sure I get my "100 things to do before I die" list down as much as I can, and some if that stuff on mine is EXPENSIVE! If it turns out that it was wrong, I can always make more money. Yet if it is right I can't get back that time to do those things before the end.

There are 2 major issues that worry me greatly about Obama:

1) The common thread that runs through his life story of being connected to people who are Middle East / terrorist associated. (see **excerpt at bottom:) This guy couldn't even pass security clearance for a low-level job in Washington and he might be our next President? With these known associates?

2) The common thread that connects this whole economic mess: the low-income mortgage debacle starting with Jimmy Carter, encouraged be Democratic leaders, Clinton's administration, and some of those same people now in Obama's camp.

can't argue with a paper trail!!

**excerpt:
Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California .
He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of
drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind,
did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used
all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo
and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan . During the summer of 1981, after
his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping
to see his mother in Indonesia , next Hyderabad in India , three weeks
in Karachi , Pakistan where he stayed with his roommate's family, then
off to Africa to visit his father's family. My question - Where did he
get the money for this trip? Nether I, nor any one of my children would
have had money for a trip like this when they where in college. When he
came back he started school at Columbia University in New York . It is
at this time he wants everyone to
call him Barack - not Barry. Do you know what the tuition is at
Columbia ? It's not cheap to say the least! Where did he get money
for tuition? Student Loans? Maybe. After Columbia , he went to Chicago
to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000 a year. Why Chicago ? Why
not New York ? He was already living in New York .

By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria ,
and a real estate developer in Chicago . Rezko has been convicted of
fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was nam ed 'Entrepreneur of the
Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association'.
About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School . Do you have
any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School ? Where did he get the
money for Law School ? More student loans? After Law school, he went
back to Chicago . Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But,
he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what?
They represented 'Rezar' which is Rezko's firm. Rezko was one of
Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in
Chicago . In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which
Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in
providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race. In
2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwoood District of Chicago
for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student L
oans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day
Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price.
The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire
loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was
purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko.

Lets face it peeps, Corporations have all the control/power.

Not Congress, not the House, not the President. Those of you who think that we are going to go to he** in a handbag if the Republicans win or the Democrats are just amusing to me. They are both in bed with the Corp. that helped sponsor their campaign. And even if the "other" side wins if the Corporation is large/powerful enough they can still have the same ultimate affect. So either one is a lose/lose proposition.

Who gave this power to them - We did - Those of you that have not seen the documentary -The Corporation - really should check it out.

Essentially a corporation has been given the "rights" of an individual but if you examine (as the above mentioned documentary does) the characteristics of a Corp. they are a psychotic individual. They are mandated by law to turn a profit ABOVE ALL ELSE. PERIOD END OF STORY. All other considerations are moot. The environment is not a concern, human suffering is not a concern, NOTHING but the bottom line MATTERS. NICE! Now who owns these wicked monstrosities
again the answer is we do. Now you personally may not own stocks in XYZ Corp. but every time you give them your money you are enabling/feeding/nutrturing them

Who can take the power/control back? Same answer of course except there are to many sheeple & not enough strong minded self sufficient type individuals. The rich are killing the middle class but so is the welfare class. So as we all know vote with your $ buy heirloom seed not seed from Monsanto, shop thrift store/garage sales or do without - we know we are a wasteful society & yet the majority of us do nothing about it. I personally would like to see all of us middle class go tax exempt on the next few months pay checks just to send a message. Bottom line though it would not matter they will get their pound of flesh.

I am in SLC, UT where one "city" runs into another. Each city has its own city hall, mayor, school district etc - talk about a good use of tax payer money - why should politicians do anything about this when it is just good job security for them.

So bottom line is a "Depression" might be the best darn thing that happens to us. Back to the basics & starve our politicians & corporations out of existence. Get the welfare class off their A**. If I don't have it, I can't give it. Like my dad says you can't get blood from a stone. Only down side is I don't own a gun......& it would get real ugly real fast. But still Darwinism @ its finest.

My Utopia - Ralph Nader/Ron Paul - consumer advocates that would actually try to do something about it. Don't much care which one in which position.

So who are the terrorists?
And college kids often backpack across the world...doesn't cost that much. The trains are pretty cheap and so are hostels.

Gee, I'm sorry so many of you are scared. Why be scared, if you think you are going to heaven for all eternity anyway if something happens to you? It always seemed to me that that was a nice side benefit of being a religious person.

I'm not scared, even though I think This Is It. All I can do is live life fully every day, enjoy other human beings, and smooch chickens even though they have germs.

As a historian, let me point out one other thing: we have two middle-of-the-road guys running for office: neither is a fascist or a communist. Both are Christians. Personally, I'd like to see something with a little more flavor on the table, but we have to choose from the stuff that's been served.

To paraphrase Voltaire, rather than worrying yourself about things you can't change, "cultivate your own garden." Or chickens!
