Is anyone else getting really scared?

Take a deep breath, breathe into a paper bag if you need to! People still need food and they still go to work when they have it. People survived the War to End all wars and then had another! We managed the depression and if you read the thread on what did your family do during the depression most of them simply got by.

The food shortage scare is always true SOMEWHERE on the planet. It isn't true here. Despite the loss of crops to the midwest floods, the corn crop this year was larger than last year. The countries that we had been exporting to will not be buying as much so there will be more on the market here.

The world "as we know it" has ended. So what? It's a new world. Adapt, adjust. The world as we know it ends repeatedly throughout our life times, this one is just more obvious.

There is NO political solution to this. There is blame enough to spread to all, including us. When you look ahead and adapt you're doing good. When you look ahead and panic you're not helping yourself or anyone else.

Catchick:

I agree, God will see us through, ask not, want not. I'm not panicking anymore. I did at first and had BAD panic attacks I prayed to our Lord to please take it from me and He did. I trust Him, I have planted fruit trees, grapes, nut trees, berries, saved seeds, and now have chickens. But mostly because I like to be self-sufficient and non-dependent of others. I also like to share nature's bounty with my church, and family. I go about everyday as normal, I am aware of what's going on, but I won't take my money out of the bank, we do have a good chunk of a mortgage ( can't pay it off any time soon ), my DH is self-employed, we have a small amount of money saved not much, but God is good. I believe we should'nt panic but become more self-sufficient as a nation get back to basics. Times were hard for everyone at one time, everyone had to provide for themselves and they made it!!! We will too....people are scared because as a country mostly we are spoiled, just go to Wal-Mart pick up whatever you need, It's that easy some folks don't know any other way and it is scary to them. Edjucate yourselves on how to become more self-sufficient, plant, preserve and most of all come to Jesus. The panic will lessen away IMO. God Bless!

very smart person. Great move on your part. Obama will crash it all. Everything is based on supply and demand. I think that when the democrats, Acorn and the like pushed for banks to loan money to low income people. These people now have borrowed money in their pocket, that they have not worked for and have no idea how to spend it or what it takes to pay it back. I had money in the market and moved it when Obama said he was going to tax it more (better safe than sorry). I think this is also part of the big decline in the market. I was raised by my grandmother and she always told me not to borrow money and pay cash for everything. I am doing great at the moment.

One thing I have learned is to listen to is listen to the older generation. I can skip the part where I say I wish I had doen this or that. I moved all my money out of the market a while back, just in case Obama wins. Great move on my part because I did not loose numbers, but will loose in dollar value. I work for people with money. If you tax them more and take their money, how will I get paid?

Is this for real? You're worried about your job because rich people are going to be taxed more? They're rich people! That's why they need to be taxed more. They have the money to make a difference! Rich people get richer, they don't get poorer. Feel lucky you work for someone who CAN afford to get through this. Also, you are correct... the reason this is financial crisis happeneing and getting worse is because of folks like you who pull their money out for incorrect perceptions of what MIGHT happen based on something a presidential candidate says. That's just insane. If you don't have even a small amount of working knowledge of how the market works, you shouldn't be participating. AND, i agree with The Chicken Lady. Don't waste your time waiting for God to come save you. Go DO SOMETHING REAL to help yourself. Live your life well. You shouldn't need a 1500 year old book to tell you how to live like a decent human being.

Not very respectful in your opinion sharing skills, I have to say. OPEN forum, means differing opinions. Respect in delivery is one way to be a "decent human being," don't you think?

you guys are right. Sorry for the harsh wording. You all are very similair in your political/religious views and they are completely opposite from mine. That's why the posts were going fine, before i jumped in. You all are preaching to the choir. I believe you should use more realism when making decisions, not blind faith. Faith alone, won't sustain people. I'm going to stick to the chicken related forums and keep politics out. Didn't mean to offend.

You have such an eloquent way with words!!! Even though we belong to different religions (I think), your thoughts are exactly the same that I have for me and my family.

I completely agree with this. We have to act for ourselves, and if we do everything in our power to be prepared for whatever may come, THEN we can rely on the God to make up the rest. But, if we do nothing, and expect him to take care of everything, we are going to be in trouble.

No - I'm not scared.

Let's consider what would happen if things didn't change from the extreme consumerism of the last decade.

Could cars get even bigger?

Could people buy even bigger houses?

Could gas get more expensive?

Could starter houses cost even more? (avg. cost in my area is $330k)

Could people buy more disposable items & not care about the long term cost to the earth?

Could companies pay their CEO's more money?

Could families be more disconnected?

Could the US buy more foreign made plasticrap?

Could China send more poison to the US?

Could US made items cost more?

If you WANT a change to happen in these things, then the US needs a values correction. I see the current happenings as a painful correction that has the potential to bring some much needed values and morals to the US.

I was more afraid that things wouldn't ever change. Now I have hope that we can emerge as a stronger nation with overall better values.

ETA: one more question: Could most people owe more money on credit? If investment bankers had their way, a child would be born in eternal debt, and would make payments all their life and never find they way out. This needs to change. Seriously, it seems many in the US are simply serfs working for corporate America and never able to get ahead.

Thanks for the reply, fatguyaz. Appreciate the way you came back with this. Trait of stand-up guy.

On the action-realism/blind faith thing: you might find it surprising to know that I don't believe I should be just sitting around, resting on my laurels, expecting God to service me from whatever tough time's coming. Nope. I'm preparing physically, too. I feel Him pushing me to do so, in fact. I don't have a bubble-gum and lollypop view of God never allowing bad to come in my life. I expect bad times in my life and know I will have them, with or without God in my life. We all do. But the faith part, for me, is knowing that no matter what, He is there for me and has already given me His all, His best - atonement in His beloved Son. He paved a path for me. I expect nothing more and certainly deserve not even that. So, to me, faith is not expecting Him to fulfill all of my wants/needs like a spirital Santa Clause; rather it's loving and trusting Him in my life, no matter what. I know He wants good things for me and will bless me according to His will. But I don't expectantly lean or wait on that. I just trust.

Just explaining myself on that a little better.
