Is anyone else having to clean their coop in the dead of winter?

I have the Metal roof, lined with feed bags. I am changing out the litter once a month. Toss it out into the covered run until spring. Then get the loader tractor and off it to the garden. That is what works for me.

I used DLM in my 8x8 dirt floor coop and it worked BEAUTIFULLY!!!

Currently, my pen is basically a muddy mess. I've put down some limestone and pine pellets, but I'm holding out on all real work until it's warmer. I intend to go with sand for the muddy run, come spring that is.

DLM works with my chickies. 4x4x4, one little ventilation hole, 7 hens normally, 6 atm. They free range all day, only go back in to lay.

Every week I fluff it and turn it over, but once a month I just add in an entire new bag of shavings.

They really pack it down, brand new its 2' deep, used its a few inches? No idea where it goes.

My DL is doing fine, though we've had a cold and damp winter so far. I ran out of BOSS and didn't have a way of persuading the gals to turn the litter for me, so I pitchforked the cap off it to find it nice, dry and fluffy underneath. Just turned the cap over and left the fluffy side up...the gals love playing in the fluffy.

Still smells good though!

Dirt floor?? I always assumed it self-composted at the bottom layer on the dirt.
Or so it seemed to, in my experience. I was very happy with it that way

Wooden floor. Some obv gets tracked out, but not enough. I should dig underneath and see what it really is haha.

I have a bare floor, except in two spots where chickens sleep on the ground, got shavings there. I clean the coop every 2 weeks or so. I use a hoe and scrape everything down and out the door. Add a bit of fresh shavings and I'm done.

Well my chicken coop is off the ground and it is about waist high. It has a vinyl floor in it.
However I found that putting one big piece of cardboard in (4X2) it has made a big difference when it comes to cleaning.

It has been the best!!!!

Their roost is right over it so all the droppings fall on the cardboard. Once a week
I go out there and slide the cardboard out of their coop and slide off all the droppings into a bucket and into
my composter!!!! I was finding that it being winter the poop was freezing to the floor, so with the cardboard
it pretty much slides right off or I just scrape it off with a small shovel. After a few weeks if it gets really stained
I just throw it out and put another piece in.
