The only person I know who does that is left handed, so I guess that has something to do with it. If that's your dominant side, I guess it feels unnatural to just leave your left foot there doing nothing. But that's only if you drive a slushbox. My left foot was always occupied with the clutch...

It was a bit of work to learn to remember that the clutch pedal is there and needs to be pressed

Oh. I never drove anything but stick if I had the choice. But I haven't driven in 2 years.
