Forgive the poor picture quality - but isn't he beautiful anyway?? LOL!

An hour ago I posted in concern over no action - and LO and BEHOLD - we heard a "cheep, cheep, cheep" while watching TV and here he is!!!

YEAH!!!!

He's a bit early so I can only assume he knows his/her time table better than do I....

HOW FUN!!!!

My silkie eggs have started to hatch. 4 out and the 5th has zipped. I pulled up a chair to watch but it seemed to have slowed things down. I have 23 total. Last time out of 26 I had 22 hatch Those were RIR and BSL and a couple silkies. Let's see how this hatch goes.

Who would have thought watching chickens hatch could be sooo exciting? Something tells me our grandmothers and great-grandmothers didn't get this involved, but then again, who knows???

I'm not sure what it is about a new, fragile life that is so endearing! (Even if it may be headed toward a stew pot!! LOL!)

I did tell my DH that this first chick has a "life-long" parole... If I can just figure out how to identify him/her. To which DH said "oh NO! there are 21 more to hatch - I KNOW where this is going!!" I told him to get some sleep; he would be busy building another coop waaayyy toooo soon.

my mom said when she was a little girl her parents had a whole room upstairs where they had eggs under "heat lamps" hatching the babies.. and raising them in a brooder (all inside on the the upstairs bedrooms!)

Makes it hard to go to work with the little fuzzy hatching. I am having the same issue. I need to get a shower and go and I am watching chicks hatch and on BYC.

I think I am up to a dozen.

I woke up to five little chicks! Three yellow and two dark guys.

Several other eggs have pipped so it promises to be an exciting day. Hopepfully everyone will hatch before this evening so I can put them all in the brooder; if not, I guess I'll have to quickly grab the ones which started last night and get them out.

Good luck everyone!
