I am starting my very first batch of eggs in the incubator this afternoon and would love to have someone hatch along with me, especially someone who is more experienced and may be able to give me some much-needed advice as we go.

I will be hatching a dozen Barred Rock eggs, 1 Rhode Island Red, 3 Rhode Island Red & White Leghorn mixed, and 2 mixed game bantam eggs. My husband bought the BR eggs for very cheap and the others were free from a relative, so we thought they would be good for our first hatch--just in case we mess up.

(Edited because I wasn't very clear that I just put the eggs in tonight!)

The Chickens' Maid :

How are your chicks? Have any hatched yet?

Ours are due sometime early this week, possibly tomorrow or the day after, OH BOY!!! It's our first hatch too!

I may have said that the wrong way. We just put them in to start tonight, so I won't have any for several weeks. I am doing this for the first time, so I'm a bit nervous about messing up, but still excited! Instead of 12 Barred Rock eggs, my husband brought home 11 Barred Rock eggs and one Silver Laced Wyandotte. I hope the little Wyandotte hatches because we don't have any of those!

Mom2chicksandpups I'm not sure if mine are going in tonight or tomorrow morning. I've actually got duck eggs & chicken eggs going in at the same time. I also have a couple of hens decide last week & the week before they were going to go broody....

They ahead of the bator but I've a feeling more reliable... The 1 hen I have a half a mind to switch out her eggs for some of the ones I have here she's SO much more reliable than me I'm sure...

Anyway I've tried hatching a few times from winter till now (it's VERY addictive) & my hatch rate is slowly rising though I'm not sure what I'm doing any different...

Anyway I'm getting wordy here because it's getting late & I'm getting sleepy I just wanted to say I'll be popping some in the bator tomorrow & I'll pop back in in a few days to see how you're doing too ok? And Good Luck with your hatch!
