Is Blackhead in Victoria,Australia?

IF blackhead is present, it is not a good idea to keep turkeys on the same ground. Anywhere there are chicken droppings, the possibility of the turkeys catching the disease is high.

If blackhead is not present, the chickens and turkeys can be kept together although there are other reasons to keep them separate.

Turkeys need much more personal space than do chickens. Turkeys that are brooded and raised with chickens can become very hazardous to the chickens once the turkeys reach their adult sizes.

In May 2007 Australia announced that metronidazole was being phased out. I doubt that it is available in Australia at this time.
Okay, thank you for the information. I might just have to create a new area for turkeys then, would a fence separating them from the chickens be good?

Make sure there is no top bar or rail on the fence. Turkeys can jump quite high and love a fence railing to perch on. Once perched there, they will almost always get down on the wrong side of the fence.

Google metronidazole for fish. Check your AU pigeon sites for drugs that treat canker, those can be used for blackhead too since both are a protozoa and the treatment is basically the same.

Turkeys are the coolest pets EVER!!! :love

I actually looked up Metronidazole a little while back, and pretty sure we have to order it from outside Aus.
Okay, will do. Thank you!:D

May I suggest that you purchase some metronidazole and Baytril to treat them in case they get sick?

You can't purchase antibiotics in Oz - they can only be prescribed and only if really needed. Metronidazole was still available just before I left 3 years ago but it is really as a last resort drug so very doubtful a vet would prescribe it particularly as a 'in case' thing.

Can you not buy them from pigeon and gamebird websites?
