Is Blackjack 57 safe?

We have converted half of a 10x10 shed into a coop and used Blackjack #57 on the floor and walls. Very easy too apply and has hardly any odor. We used a 2x3 to stir it up and regular paint rollers and paint brushes. It is very thick which is nice to work with, less of a mess.

We have let it air out and dry for 3 days now and it's some tough stuff. I can barely smell any odor and filled cracks and seams very well. Hopefully it will stand up against a few years of chickens and washing.

It's too thick to shake......someone mentioned that the paint department told them that....could bust the shaker machine.

I agree with Aart. It is not going to shake well. It's too thick for that. But, even though it was very thick, we were able to stir it just fine even in the 5 gallon bucket with just a thick piece of wood. We worked it kinda like a butter churn until the thicker sediment mixed with the thinner layer on top and it was of a uniform consistency. We put it on our roof and floor of the coop and LOVE it!!

I used just 1 gallon for the inside of the coop and up the sides a little, I have a rather small coop, made to occupy about 6 chickens. I did the nesting box area and the rest of the coop (pretty much all but the top half of the walls). Wanted something to clean out rather easily. I actually used an old windshield wiper to stir mine... worked great, but it did require a lot of stirring. I wanted it to be as good as I could get it. I had no problem painting it on, I glopped it out with a paint brush and it was fairly easy. I did, however, get it in my hair, and cloths... and forearms. I'm not a neat painter lol.

I wonder if turning the bucket upside down for a few days to allow the contents to mix naturally would make stirring easier or less necessary.

When natural peanut butter separates, if you store it upside down, the oil goes back into the mass.

My bet is that it certainly would help.

Use a paint mixer deal chucked in a drill.. Then set it aside for your remodel or addition.


Like that only few bucks for one. Oh mix welll

Also I love bj57. I used it in the coop floor and 3' up the walls ,The dog house floor, I also will be using it on the wooden post where I put them in the ground.
