is burnt wood bad for chicks?

I live in town. I do have chickens up in Fountain which is 45 mins from where I live. I make sure the bird up at the Farm hhave enogh food to last them all week I visit them once a week to check on everything. I looking to buy a place closer to town to have them at. Where I live I can check on all the birds I have her everyday. I do have a shed on property but its my BF place. Its one of those metel shed so its get really hot. He does have a two car garage but he has his Chevielle parked in there. So I'm thinking of a place to keep them....... We mocved the brooder out to a concrete slab after the fire he says he don't want it close to the house.... I did have really good luck raiseing chicks in it before the fire. During the fire I had 20+ buff opringtons in it. That were a good 4 weeks old.

I wonder if you can just replace the top..but you still have the burned wood on the sides also... I guess I am spoiled, my DH builds me all kinds of things, and also I built a little building myself, size of a doghouse. pretty cool feeling to build it yourself. Your pen looks like a rabbit pen, if you have a farm store nearby maybe you can just buy one? you would have to enclose it partically though, I bet it is hot in florida, a metal building probably would work if you left the door open.. but then predators.... sounds like quite a dilema.

Okay last night I told him the bad news.... He helped me put a temp pen in the shed it is an old ferret cage. We just Zip Ties the lamp from the top. everyone looks good. I have a few chicks left. Havent lost one yet "Knock on wood" We will build a new brooder after the 22nd since both our weekends are booked with his car show this saturday and my poultry show next saturday. LOL I have tried painting the coop at one time but where ever it is burnt it sucks all the paint in no matter how many time I paint over it. He did surggest on just replacing the top but heck it I'm going to have to rebuild it Might as well have it a little wider and longer. It can be a pain to seperate the little chciks from the bigger or the ducklings from the little chicks.

I'll post pics of my 'brooder' today. It would likely work for an outside setup, just needs a little modification to cut out drafts. No fire hazard with mine, and you keep a good amount of chicks AND ducklings in it. Right now I have 8 ducklings and 7 chicks in it, just with a divider in between (which I need a new one of, since this one doesn't fit at all).

It used to house my 5 1/2ft Red Tail Boa

he got temporary housing since I needed something more fire-safe for my chicks.
