Hi, I set up some live traps, and I used Wet canned cat food as bait. I have had a problem here and there these last couple weeks, I am unsure what has been sneaking around, But it killed My Turkey Tom and a Rooster of mine.

How far from the coops should I set my trapps?

I have used cat food but like sardines even better because of their strong odor. I also think that sardines take a little longer to spoil than cat food. I set live traps adjacent to my coops and pens.

Well first night I caught a cat, and last night a Raccoon, Well I'll see what tonight brings.

Ihave been using Sardines.

I hope you catch anyone who might be harming your chickens! Don't hurt whoever you catch, though!
I often catch rats in my traps and drive about 10 miles to let them go in the woods somewhere.

If its a raccoon or even an opossum you think use peanut butter with cut up twizzlers mixed in it, works every time!! I have a trail cam and my live trap set up right outside the back of my coop where they were getting in before we fixed it.

I have my trap set up far from the coop, but setting it even right next to the coop is fine.I put in carrots, apples, dry corn, marshmallows, dog food,or even nothing. I kill what I catch.Rarely relocate. Why keep trapping the same predator.Best wishes.

I prefer sardines or canned tuna, the tuna has worked better for my than the sardines I think it has a stronger smell. I also kill what I catch relocating is asking for the critter to come back or go and kill someone else's birds and in many cases is illegal

I had thought about relocating but All I am doing is asking for it to come back and be real hungry after it's hike or I am now giving my problem to some one else. I am trying my best to knock down the population, I have 10 Trap's of assorted kinds set up around my property all within 50 Yards of the coop.

provided its not a neighbors cat...if you catch it,you kill it!
As you said, relocation is just passing your problem onto someone eles.

Caught a possum last night, Still having a hard time with the Weasel/Minks they are taking the bait and springing the traps but running off.
