My kids eat chocolate pop-tarts but do not like the "crust." I cut it off. They are always wanting to take it out with the dinner scraps to give to the chickens as a snack. I wasn't sure if this is safe for them or bad for their health.
Thanks!

Chocolate ins't safe for most animals. I know it will speed up a parrot's heart rate, possibly causing a heart attack. I imagine it would be the same for a chicken, since their heart rates are so high to begin with. A scrap shouldn't hurt, but a whole candy bar wouldn't be great.

I would steer clear of chocolate of any type to any animals..
My DD11 when she was a bit younger gave my cockatiel a portion of her breakfast one day (a fudge pop tart). When they got home from school they called me that "Big Bird" was dead, lying in the bottom of the cage. So when I got home to take care of it I found the pop tart and ask who did it and then explained to the girls never never give animals anything unless I say it is ok. Hard lesson learned but definitely learned .
