Hen or roo? I’m in denial she might be a he. These are all about 10 weeks and wondering about the Barnevelder on the far right. S/he had a loud scratchy chuckle this morning scared us all

Cockerel.

I don’t know barnevelders, but the thick legs, big wattles and red shoulders say cockerel.

You made my day- there’s still hope for a hen - although mine started looking more and more black today on the head and tail. One post I saw said hens have a black head but yours is a nice brown. I’m confused until I know for sure because I have to give him/her away if a he.

At 10 weeks, the original bird is definitely a cockerel. A pullet of that age would have a small, pale comb and little to no wattle development. I would start looking for a new home for him.

There is no hope, at least not for the cute cockerel shown in your pictures.
