Is Daisy an Ameraucana?

Mine are a little over 2 years old. They are small, especially compared to my Bielfelder (I had 3 but lost 2 in a suspected racoon attack this summer )! They were born in May 2016 and I got my first egg on Christmas day My Americaunas honestly either have a huge nest hidden somewhere (and I've looked all over) or they lay very seldom. They used to each lay ever 2 days or so. They are also more skittish and flighty than my big ladies. I now have 12 chicks (Some type of red, alleged cuckoo marans, and 8 barred rocks) in the brooder. Chicken math got me good. I was sure my first 8 chicks were mostly males so got 4 "confirmed" females. Now it looks like I have 2 "for sure" cockrels and 2 "strong maybes" lol. But hey, 8/12 females from straight run is great in my eyes! They are around 4-5 weeks though so we shall see...

Yes mine are so spastic. I've had them all summer, I sit with them and have coffee several days a week, and do stuff around them daily, yet they still run for the high hills when I come near. If I have to pick one up, they lose their minds trying to get away and then once I have them, they completely freeze. I feel so bad :/ Hahah but good to hear it's not just me! Ours sound and look very similar, so I hope mine fill out a bit more as they mature. Oh man, chicken math is brutal. I'm officially at capacity with 10 but man I want more next spring ...

Easter Egger

Ameraucanas are always a certain color variety, and this is a good way to know if you are getting the true thing or not. If chicks/birds aren't labeled as a color variety, they are most likely EEs.

Also, they have blue/slate legs/feet. Never green or yellow. (typical of EEs)
They have a pea comb, a beard, and muffs.
They lay blue eggs only. (EEs can lay any color, though blue, green, and pink are more common.)

A good place to look for Ameraucans would be from a breeder. Or,look online. There are usually farms/breeders that ship chicks.

A few places are:
White Mountains Ranch
Chicken Fanatics
Wild Acres
Deer Run Farm

Whatever you do, don't buy from eBay! :)[/QUOTE
I was just wondering if the wild acres you are referring to is in Canada? In Armstrong, British Columbia? I highly recommend buying from here, they have great quality birds.

I got 7 birds from Wild Acres in April! Amazing birds, although unfortunately they are all straight run except for the Legbars. A bit pricey, but great quality and huge variety of hermitage breeds from great lines! I love only an hour and a bit away from them. Keep in mind they only ship chicks to BC and Alberta, and they ship fertile eggs to Canada, but not the US. I got a Blue Ameraucana from them, but it turned out to be a Cockerel. I was wondering if this was the Wild Acres that @Crazy for Chickens! was talking about..

Right?? One time my girls had messy bums so I gloved up, got warm water and the scissors and went to cleaning them. The first Americauna I grabbed, after finishing cleaning her, started panting and choking. She played on the ground not running away (per usual) and then flopped over. I was sure she was a goner. But I left her under a bush to relax and an hour later found her just fine back with her sisters. They are SO dramatic!! Super glad to know it isn't just mine as well!

Hope you don't mind me butting in here, this thread is interesting to me because I'm trying to figure out the breed of a blue 15 week pullet that I have and quite a few indications are Ameraucana.... My question though about feed stores... My local feed store (I didn't get her from them,) advertises Ameraucana chicks on their chick list throughout chick season. So if they spell it that way, will I get a true Ameraucana or do you still think it cant be all the way trusted - ? I'm very hesitant to order through the mail again as I had an order of Lavender Orpington's go south (respiratory sickness and sexed wrong.) Anyhoo.... I'm already planning next spring chicks for some reason! BTW Daisy is very pretty!!

Personally, if they're advertised with the correct spelling of 'Ameraucana' but DON"T have a specific color; i.e. black, wheaten, blue wheaten... etc. I would assume EE. I don't trust the feed stores to get it right.

Great advice, thank you! I just looked at last Springs scheduled and indeed they do not specify color. Maybe I'll give MPC a try. Thanks again!
