Is Egg Theft Common?

I did have eggs go missing it was a two legged critter new neighbor he bought one carton thought the price was too high put out a game cam now have a lock on the door
Game cameras can be priceless! We bought our land from our closest neighbor when they decided to divide. We kept finding trash dumped on our land. I asked them if they ever had that problem before. They said nope. I put up a camera and caught him and his teenage grandsons dumping used engine oil and of oil drums on camera. I showed him the first picture of the two teens to see if he knew who they were. He said no. Then I showed him a picture of him with the boys, carrying the rusted old drum.
his expression was priceless! yes- they cleaned it all up! No problems since then other than neighbor relations!

I have had eggs stolen. Evidence of the 2 legged thief was left in tracks in the snow.

I replaced latches and added padlocks.

I guess I should be glad they didn't take birds.

I live in suburbia and have a fenced yard.

I trust no one. Lock em or lose em is my motto. It applies to shed, coops, garage, shop, house etc.

I have had people steal eggs from my cooler. I sell my eggs. I did have a thief stealing my egg money I leave in a cookie jar. I do have several cameras and caught the thief taking the money and putting it in their pocket. They did go to jail. I live rural on a dead end road. I have several game cameras up on my property. I see mostly 4 legged predators. Most nights I see a predator on at least one of the cameras. The only drawback to this camera is that it takes the tiny micro SD card but otherwise it takes great pictures.

Yes, I hate the micro SD card! I dropped the darn thing the first few times because it's so dang little and in a really inconvenient spot. But, the technique is now mastered. I found video to be much more effective in catching whatever went by - now I'm set to 20 second video without bothering with the still photos.

You should consider a cannibal chicken too, i used to have an egg cracker hen, i used to lost some egg, i search under the coop to check if the egg was rolling down but i couldnt find any, till someday i caught her red handed pecking, cracking, and eating her egg.
Umm...., i mean red beaked, yellow beaked, whatever.

Hope you and your neighbour live well.

Yep - I've got a couple who will go in search of eggs. Camera set to the area can make it pretty obvious what's going on.

There are so many good wireless camera systems now- or your friend could use trail cams- which make no noise when they record. At night the IR light will come on, but sounds like the thieves come during the day, so unless they were really looking, they probably wouldn't even notice. One where the egg access is- whether it's a small door into the nest boxes or the "people" door - and one camera wherever a vehicle is most likely to pull up. Then you have the license plate for police-- and pictures of the person. Even just a couple of trail cams with video capability would do it.

I seriously think they need these, too. They have also had chicken feed stolen. Kinda bizarre. They put their guard dog out for now and hope it will deter the thieves.

They had 32 eggs go missing. Don't think the hens were that eager to be crack a lackin' those eggs. These people live about 20 minutes away or so...more rural area.
