Is He A Cameo Or Peach? He Has Gone Blind Already :(

I have a Cameo split to peach peacock that will be 2 next year. He is loosing his baby feathers and his adult ones are coming in very very light peachy color. Is this normal for a cameo? I took pictures but didn't remember until it was getting dark last night so these were the best I got. I will try to get daylight pictures tomorrow before work. Is he a cameo or peach? What color is an adult cameo a light light peachy color? At first I thought he was turning white but then I got a closer look and it is not.

Man the turning white is a bad thing in the cameo line.....most of those go blind

Yep, That's the bad thing about Cameos some carry that blind gene when our Cameos would go blind it was always the head that turned white first, I would just keep an eye on him and see what happens you can look in the eyes and tell when they are blind.

I would not breed from him, he will pass that gene to his young. You will know more when he molts more....sorry to give you the bad news. Better you know now than later after you have many chicks from him.

I came home from vacation to find out that Jackson has gone blind. He is not even 2 years old yet, is this common for them to go blind so quickly? I have been teaching him how to eat without seeing the food and putting his head into the waterer. He seems to be learning slowly, but he is learning. I will keep him as long as he is willing to live. I have to bring him into the shed at night and place him on the perch, in the morning he just waits for me to put him outside. I show him the food and water every morning so far, but he found the pan of food on his own today

Sorry , not sure how fast it happen......cameo is a color i never raised. I just knew about the blind gene. If you have any of his brothers or sisters , i would not breed them with the peach line. Wouldn't want that gene in your peach line.

No I got him with a couple whites and the pied chick that had the gasping problem but she died. He is the only one that survived from the 4 of them. The whites died a couple weeks after I got them. They arrived sick

I do want to Thank you because I would never had known that he would go blind and most likely wouldn't have noticed anything til it was too late as I cannot catch the big ones only at night. Sometimes bad news is helpful too. He continues to eat for me so far
