This is a barnyard mix mutt acquired from my neighbor. You can see the others in the photos. The other golden/brown is 100% roo. This one in question is a little smaller, maybe a week younger (?), has fuzzy pants and just a little bit more black in it's cape. ETA: Could be 10-14 weeks old.

What do you think: Hennifer or Henry?

About how old are they? Because if they are younger (8- 12 weeks), I’m leaning towards roo. However, it’s always hard to tell until adulthood. Roos are usually bigger and have redder combs/waddles even when younger.

Also, are there any similarly aged birds to compare them to? That always helps when Im trying to sex younger birds.

This is the roo, Cluck Norrris. He's the closest in color/breed. Everyone else is from way different parents.

And then the babes in a cuddle puddle. You can see the other black roo (Donut) there laying with his head on the chick in question's back. Cluck is on the left.

At 10-14 weeks he/she should be getting hackle and saddle feathers if he's a roo. Do you see any glossy feathers coming in? I got the impression that you didn't know how old they are though
No, I don't see anything yet.

The neighbors (two related households), have 100+ chickens. They all free range and they often don't know a chicken is sitting until the chicks are here. Then they get tossed into a smaller pen until they're big enough to fend for themselves in the "wild".

No judgement. Just saying it's impossible to know how old they are.
