Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

I'm sorry about the bunnies!
sad.png
The male and female sound pretty! We had an all black bunny a few years ago. Her name was Olive! Oh boy the beach! That sounds fun!
big_smile.png

Hahaha! That's funny she stole eggs! I guess she thought she didn't have enough to sit on already! Ginger and Georgie kept switching eggs back and forth. I wonder why they do that? I don't know how Biddy is going to do as a mama. She wasn't very nice to the other chicks when I put them in the coop, but she wasn't mean to Ginger and Georgies chicks while they were there. I'm hoping the mothering instinct kicks in and she does what she's supposed to! If not, I'll probably put the new chick with the other new chicks.
The partridge chick was marked as straight run on the box so I'll be watching to see if it is a roo or if it ends up a pullet. I can't figure out who's the roo with the polish and hamburg chicks yet either. I'm going to name the polish roo Rod Stewart because of his head of hair! LOL!

Your probably in a good place to raise yours "all natural" since your so warm there! Haha, that would be a heck of a package to get in the mail! A box of crawling bugs!
sickbyc.gif
I ended up with some minnows yesterday that Jim caught while he was fishing and I fed the dead ones to the older chicks out in the coop and they went nuts over em! I gave the tiniest ones to the new chicks and they were so funny chasing each other around trying to get a peck of fish! One would grab one up and run to the box to hide and eat it but the others all ran after it and another one would steal it away and do the same thing, over and over til there wasn't any fish left! I was cracking up, they're so cute!
gig.gif
They've been getting an extra treat the last few days, the tomato worms are out now and I have to pick them off my tomatoes every morning so they don't eat them to the ground and the chickens LOVE them! Big, green, squishy caterpillars! I only give the tiny ones to the new chicks, all the rest I give to the bigger chickens and they do just what the little ones were doing with the fish. Chase and steal, chase and steal. LOL!

Yeah, they are pretty on the outside but not so pretty on the inside, who bites their babies?
I think the reason that my hen stole the eggs from the other hen is because she was already sitting on two when they were in the same nest, they werent switching like chickens that co-hatch do, which i thought was weird and then she finally gave in and moved nests and took the two eggs that she was sitting on with her, i guess that was both of their favorite nest.

Btw on the other post i didnt say how cute your chicks were, they really are adorable, and the house that you have made for them is also very nice and what a beutiful sunset!!!
I think Biddie is going to be VERY protective of her chick/chicks!
Rob Stewart, that is hilarious!!
I love the little polish chicks, i think the little afro on their head is adorable!!
Can you imagine, a box of grubs arriving in the mail with a pillowcase of ducks and some crumbled cookies!!!
lau.gif

I love it when they chase each other, i also feel kind of bad for the ones that dont get any goodies though so i always end up taking them aside and giving them some...
We dont get many grubs here because of the heat, they need moisture,, dont they?
Ok now for the pictures:

Ok so today the restraunt was closed, i wont start explaining that, so i had time to do things, i started by cleaning Midnight and Sunshine 's small "coop":
Before

The mess i made outside:

All the junk i swept out and put in a bucket to throw out:

After everything was done, Sunshine decided to make a mess:

And MIdnight decided to try and clean it up, by eating it:

Its clean finally:

For dust baths:

They like to hide under here:

The like to lie here:

And a bigger mess, they both teamed up on me and made a huge mess:

The outside:

THat was Midnight and Sunshine, now for the other chickens/chicks...

I know it seems terrible that she bit them, but bunnies will eat their babies if they sense somethings not right with them. Terrible but that's just the way they are. I think they are some of the hardest animals to raise because of their weird way of doing things even tho everyone else would probably say they're one of the easiest to raise!
I've had so many restaraunt jobs over the years that I can think of about a thousand reasons a restaraunt would be closed! LOL.
How far did she move the 2 eggs? Did she roll them to the new one or could she have picked them up somehow?
I think Biddy will be protective even if she doesn't know what she's doing! She's been meaner than Georgie was when I try to check on the eggs! I've been waiting til I close the coop at night to look so she's half asleep and doesn't peck me to death!
tongue.png

OMG, I'm cracking up thinking of what a package that would be! You'd probably get a box of really fat ducks by the time it got there! They'd have eaten all the bugs and cookie! Haha, some stuffed ducks with cookie crumbs all over their bills!
lau.gif

Great job on the pics! I like midnight and sunshine's little spot (they sure have grown already!!) I bet those concrete blocks stay nice and cool! LOL, of course they're going to make a mess AFTER you clean up! Good idea with the towel for a hidey hole! That's what I forgot to give to my new little chicks, a dust box! I'll have to make em one! I can't wait to see more pics! That was fun!!!
big_smile.png

But what could be wrong with all five of them that she felt the need to bite them?
I think she is the one that had something wrong with her!
hmm.png

She moved them to the floor outside of the nest, i think she just rolled them and then i put her in the nest beside.
roll.png

The ducks would sell for even more!!!
lau.gif

Yeah, i think their spot is cool and safe and they are comfortable in it, whenever they are somewere unknown to them and they dont see me around they start screeming "CHEEP CHEEP CHEEP" so i go rushing over thinking there is something wrong with them and then when they see me they go about searching for yummy things again...

I was going to send you the pics of the other chicks and chickens but i was tired so i brought my computer into my bedroom to lie down and it ran out of battery, i was trying to put 56 pictures on so i had to wait a really long time, then i just decided that i could do it in the morning.
Ok, are you ready for millions of pictures of everything that you could imagine, haha, i am kidding, just of the chickens and chicks oh and some of my cats, dont worry i am not a crazy cat lady, maybe a crazy chicken lady but at least i am still young.
Here goes:

Those are the five older ones, isnt the one in the second picture reallly cool looking, her one eye is kind of dull but her other is perfectly normal, she is one of the pullets and the black/brown one that you see in the first third and last picture is the other pullet, the rest are roos. I didnt get a good picture of the light one that you see in the first and third picture, oops...

I just realized that i didnt get any good pictures of the 6 younger chicks, would you like me to post the blurry ones or take new ones, i think i will take new ones.

The fig trees, the 6 older chicks escaped to them when they noticed that i had let all the chicks and their moms free range, you can see them in the second pic, the third pic is a bit blury because the sun was in my eyes and i couldnt see what i was doing...

Here is Clucker and Peeps mom with her 7 new babies, in the last picture, you can see one of her chicks lying down behind her, i have no idea what is wrong with it...

Now here is the mama with her one chick, that hates getting her picture taken, you can barely see the chick in all the weeds.
See all the weeds, that is how it is every summer, i would really like to cut them all and put grass down with sprinklers so that it looks nice because the weeds do NOT look nice at all...

And now for the 6 older ones, sorry the pics of them arent very good but they wouldnt stand still, you see the white one in the first pic, that is the one that escaped from the 5 older ones and the ones in the second picture and third are the two really big cockerels.

THe first and last ones are not the same, the first white one and the two next ones are the cockerels of this batch and the black one in the back round of the first picture, the one in the third picture and the one in the last one are the pullets.

I am going to post some pictures of the cats that hang around at my house:

The cats:
1.
400
2. 3. 4.
5.
6.

  1. That is a picture of a little kitten that just ended up here, dont know how, one day i just hear crying and go outside and see that little bundle of joy, he/she isnt very friendly but i want her/him to be so i go out with lots of treats and try to persuade him/her to come close to me.
  2. The gray striped cat in the back round is the mama of the kitten that is ready to pounce on a very nice male cat, he is not the father but he is very protective of the baby.
  3. THat is a picture of my one eyed cat, he is the other yellow ones brother, you cant see in the picture that he only has one eye but he does...
  4. A close up of mama.
  5. A close up of baby.
  6. Sorry that it isnt a good picture but that is the only one that i took of my old gray cat, she is the mother to almost all of the others, she is respected by all the others, she even protected the kitten that ended up here when it had first come and the others were picking on it, the gray striped one actually tried bitting it and scratching it to try and make it leave because she wanted to protect her baby but the gray one didnt let her. I have rushed her to the vets twice when she was poisened by the poison that the farmers put down for the stray dogs so that they dont eat their baby lambs. She is the best cat but she is really old so her time is coming for the goodbye but i dont like talking about that.

I have one more cat, female but she has never had kittens, i didnt get a picture of her because she wasnt around...
I will post a picture of the beach soon.

If you have any ideas of what i should name them i would love to hear them, what if you named Buddy, Rover, do you like the name, do you think it suits him?
I think i am going to name the male cat in picture 2 Duckie, what do you think?

Your chickens are SO PRETTY! I love the variety! That one in the second pic is really neat! And the black/brown one! I like that pic with the chicken standing in front of the sunshine.

The notorious fig trees! Jeez, they're definitely thick! I don't know how you ever managed to get chicks out of that! No wonder it was such a pain!

She looks a lot like my Biddies! I like that light chick and that one with the light stripe on it's wing! Has that one laying down been acting puny for awhile or just recently? I always get a sick feeling in my stomach when I throw goodies out and someone doesn't want to eat, you know something's wrong when a chicken doesn't want to eat! How's it doing today?

I had to put my glasses on and make the pic bigger to find the chick! I like those big rocks in the background! You'd have your work cut out for you if you tried to plant grass in that huge field! You could always throw out a bunch of wildflower seeds and see if they pop up. That's actually pretty close to what the fields here look like in the winter. Minus the cool looking rocks.
And now for the 6 older ones, sorry the pics of them arent very good but they wouldnt stand still, you see the white one in the first pic, that is the one that escaped from the 5 older ones and the ones in the second picture and third are the two really big cockerels.

The white one has some pretty splotches of color! And that one off to the right side in that second pic looks like it's blue and red??? Neato! Your chickens make me want to paint with all those lovely colors they have!

I'm so happy to see so many cats hanging around! And that's just how you get them to be friendly! Lots of treats and then lots of petting! The one eyed cat looks like he's doing good! He looks nice and fat! I can't believe they put out poison! That's awful! You'd think they could find another way to protect the lambs! Llama's are VERY protective of flocks their in, ranchers use them a lot over here to protect sheep, cattle, etc from coyotes and wolves. They'll stomp a coyote down to the ground without blinking. The neighbors down the road from us have some llamas to protect their cows and horses(they're the ones that have the ducks boris and natasha now) Llamas can handle the heat too. Sorry, to go on about that but I just hate the thought of poisoning animals! As you've found out the hard way, poison isn't very selective, it kills animals that aren't a threat along with the ones causing the problems! We lost a cat last year when a farmer put poison in the grain bins across the street for rats and he got one of the poisoned rats. The year before that one of our dogs(a little beagle) chased a rabbit over there and died within a few minutes of coming back. It was horrible to see her suffering from that poison. I'm glad you were able to save your cat!
