Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Great news, my sister came to visit and she has an i-phone so i took a couple of pictures of Midnight and Sunshine!

Midnight

Midnight & Sunshine

Their cage open.

Their cage closed.

She doesnt really like it when i use her phone so i cant get lots of pictures but is there any one that you really want to see?

Midnight and Sunshine sure are pretty! And you did an AWESOME job making their cage! You don't have to take any more pics with her camera if she doesn't like you using it! I loved seeing the ones you posted tho!
Your super sweet for being so supportive! I feel better now, even tho I ended up losing a few more the next morning. Ginger and Georgie's little chick was one of the casualties unfortunately.

But, with the sad comes the glad...My grandpa saw what happened on my facebook page and called me and said he wanted to replace the ones I lost! I couldn't believe it! So...I ordered them yesterday! They'll be here the week of the 15th, I'll be sure and take pics! The dh didn't even grouch, I think he knew how upset I was. My mom's going to bring me out some new tarps so I can cover the roof with them so that'll at least stop the water from pouring in. I managed to fix that side wall that pulled up too. When I get it all dried up I think I'm going to tear out the inside and rebuild the roosting room and the ceiling. It's STILL been raining, like everyday so I've had a time of it keeping the chickens dry. I've been going out and sweeping all the water out inbetween the rain and I've gone thru like 8 bales of straw trying to keep their feet dry. 2 of them are acting puny, just sitting with their eyes closed, but they're still eating and drinking and I've been drying them with the hairdryer on and off so I'm hoping they pull out of it.

I'll dig up some pics of the coop and show you what it looked like before. It'll give you an idea of it's shape and size so if you do think of any ideas I'll be glad to hear em!
It is fun to plan things, even if you aren't going to actually do them! I do that all the time! I like your idea with the chicks! Rent-a-chick
tongue.png
They can have them while they're there then bring em back when it's time to leave. Actually a fun idea!
It sounds like you've got your hands full over there! Chicks and chickens running amuck! LOL. I can't believe those sneaks actually moved the rocks that were blocking the hole! They must be determined! Is everyone that was in the coop that caved in alright?
I think you'd be better off just fencing in the fig trees! You could build them little "treehouse" coops in the trees. Wouldn't that be neat? Tree house chickens! That could be another exhibit in your habitat!
gig.gif
As for your to do list(I don't know how you find time to even sit down!) I'll be sure to remind you to keep up the hard work! That's enough to keep a body busy all summer! I guess all you can do is try and do one thing at a time. You almost need some dog houses for each group of chicks! I like how you organized them into groups by the way, very tidy! LOL. Give each group a dog house in a little fenced in run. They'd all be nice and organized! I drew pics just for the heck of it! The little houses don't have to be big or fancy, just a box that maybe opens on top so you can get in it if you have to. And then just fence in enough room that they can scratch about. When the chicks outgrow em and go to the big coop, you'd have nice little spots for newbies!

Here's some pics of my coop from last summer. A limb from a tree fell on the front corner that summer and made a small leak that's why the tarp's on it and the eave is broke. It's 16'x7' and it's actually attatched to the house. You can see it was already getting pretty worse for wear. I should have fixed it up this spring.

I forgot! I was going to tell you what kinds of chickens I ordered! I got some easter eggers, some buff orpingtons, barred rocks, white jersey giants, silver spangled hamburgs, and buff laced polish. I'm excited about the polish! You should look up a pic of them, they are super neato. They have the puff of feathers on their heads! I got a roo to go with the pullets and a hamburg roo too since that was one that didn't make it.I'm hoping they put in an extra roo or two like they did with the last batch. That way I'll have plenty and you won't have to send me some of yours! LOL, just kidding. That was awful nice of you to say so tho!
big_smile.png
Talk to you soon!

Well, i think i can persuade my sister to let me take a few more pics, she is staying for a whole week and i really like taking pictures for you because i feel so bad about not taking pictures for so long so now i can make up for it, is there anything you really want to see or you are just interested in seeing?
Oh no, not Ginger and Georgies chick, i didnt really "know" any of your other chickens that is why i find this death so sad and if you think of it, that little chick sort of brought us together!
lol.png

How many died, i am sorry that i keep bringing the subject up, i know it must be really sad talking about it.
That is sooooo exciting, how many of each are you getting?
Hahahaha the polish is so funny looking.
lau.gif

How does the water keep getting in the coop, they are in the roosting area right?
If the rain in getting in from the door that i see you have, why dont you try hanging a tarp over that?
I like your idea about the little coops, i think i might try that, thanks!
No, none of them were hurt, i have wire mesh for the cage and then bamboo on top and every time i have to feed them or clean out the coop i just have to roll the bamboo up and do my work, but it was very windy that day and i guess it was blowing the bamboo a bit and that was moving the coop (
because i havent gotten around to making proper coops) and i guess the wire just collapsed, i had a crate in there though (so that they could jump up on it if they wanted to ) so the wire just fell onto the crate, i managed to catch them and their mom (this happened to the six younger chicks) and i fixed the coop a bit, so we'll see... something is wrong with my computer, i will try again later, i have no idea what happened it just started writing funny.

Well, if you insist...LOL, I'd love to see anything you want to take a pic of! Some of your chicks and the mamas for sure! How bout the notorious fig tree or your coop spot? And maybe one of the sea??? I'm terrible nosy I know!
tongue.png

I know what you mean about that little chick being what brought us together!!! I was thinking just that when I found him! If it weren't for him and the other two we wouldn't be having such a fun time talking now! Poor little thing. I ended up losing five total And, I think one of them might have a broken tail out of the ordeal.
barnie.gif
! I only just noticed today that her tail is hanging sideways, I have no idea how to go about fixing that. She doesn't seem to be in any pain, she didn't squak or try to peck me when I picked her up to look. I don't want to mess with it too much and make it worse, you know? It one that had been acting puny, that's probably why I didn't notice since it just seemed to me that they had their tails down cause they didn't feel good. But now the other is back to normal and this one is acting fine again except for the tail. I'll take a pic tomorrow so I can show you.
I'm definitely super excited about the new chicks coming!
highfive.gif
HAHA, did you see a pic of the polish then??? Aren't they cool? I don't care if they lay a lot of eggs or not, they're worth it just to look at! Plus if they breed with the other chickens, the babies will all have the feathers on their heads too!
yesss.gif

I'm glad yours didn't get hurt! Good luck having the crate in there!
Yeah, the open part gets wet if the wind blows rain in, but it dries fast since the air moves thru. It's the back room(the right side of the coop behind the blue/grey wall) that's SUPPOSED to be dry all the time that i'm concerned about. I think I'm going to have to do some major repair to get it back up to snuff. Here's what it looks like from this morning...

Better than last week! All the mus is cleaned up at least!

Ok first i am going to reply to your other post that i didnt finish because of my old computer.
The rocks that i had put to cover the hole were pretty small so it was easy to move them, dont think that they are super chickens or anything.
tongue.png

Well, at least i wont be bored over the summer...
Here is what i have already done: Fixed the little cage
Haha, that is it.

Ok now for your new post.
I have such good news, my camera got here!!!
yesss.gif
celebrate.gif

Ok, so now what do you want pictures of, the fig trees, my coop, all the chicks of course, the sunset, the beach, what do you mean my coop spot?
I wouldnt worry to much about the tail, if she is acting fine.
Is her tail low enough to get poop on it, sorry for sounding so gross.
tongue.png

I can order polish eggs but i am trying to just get hens that lay lots of eggs, like leghorns or golden comets, even though i cant get golden comets.
Here are all the eggs that i can order: http://www.farmcare.gr/poulerika/category-212/
I think i have to fix my coop that i already have, in the winter it rains so much so i cant fix it then, but in the summer it is soooo hot....
Oh wow, it looks so much better!!!

Here are some pictures that i took with my sisters phone, i havent set my camera up yet...

This is Sunshine

And this is Midnight with her/his weird toes

Sorry it took me so long to reply! I haven't been able to get a second of privacy since his mom got here! If she'd seen me typing on here she'd have tried to tell him I'm talking with some boyfriend in secret or something, seriously, she's done it before. Anyway she's gone for a few days (HOORAY!!!!) so I can get back to business!
That reminds me! I was going to ask the last time if you were having fun with your sister visiting. Does she only visit every once in a while?
First of all good job getting the little cage fixed! Hey that's one thing off your list! LOL
thumbsup.gif

Oh and and that makes more sense(the little rocks) instead of super chickens. Altho super chickens would have been fun!
tongue.png

You got your camera!!!!! AWESOME!
highfive.gif
I can't wait for new pics! I'll have to take some more now too!
big_smile.png
I'll have a bunch next monday when the new chicks get here!
I checked out the egg page, there were some good egg layers on there. The leghorns of course are egg laying machines, but the ameracaunas(which lay the green/blue eggs) lay really well too, and the orpingtons. The orpingtions are good mama birds too.Speaking of mama birds...One of my black star hens is actually sitting on some eggs!!! I can't believe it since they never have before and those kind of chickens aren't really bred for being broody. I'm going to take a pic of an egg she's sitting on, it's HUGE!
I love the chick pics! Sunshine is real pretty! Midnight is my favorite tho!
love.gif
You picked the perfect name!I like the extra toe and that hes/shes black from head to toe-the spot just shines against the dark! It looks like her comb is even black! Such a cool looking chick!
OH, and by coop spot, I just meant your coop. I know I sound like a hillbilly sometimes but I swear I'm not! LOL.
I'm going to go take a pic of that egg! I think it has 2 yolks inside. Do you think it would get 2 chicks in it if she keeps sitting on them? Twin chicks! That would be something wouldn't it? I've never heard of it, I'll have to try and look it up to see if it's possible! OK, gotta go for now but I'll be back soon!

I threw this one in just cause it was cute! It's Duckie cat kitty sitting the newest batch of baby cats! He's not the dad, he just seems to like curling up with them.

One more!
