Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

Your dogs are beautiful too!!!
big_smile.png
Love their names! That puppy pic is just too adorable!
Yay! You made it to your corner! LOL,your garage looks spic n span compared to my attic! It's finished up there and I've been wanting to move our room up there but...ugh, I don't even know where to start!
At least your stray cat was out! I took one in and she had her cats IN my couch, then abandoned them(thank goodness my mama cat had just had a batch of her own! she took them right in) and got upstairs in the attic. The stuffed full attic.

I had a time of it getting her outside and to one of the barns! She tore me up!

Feed the zoo! haha thats how I feel! love it tho! Wouldn't have it otherwise!

You should have seen it before they cleaned a path threw to it.

I moved the rest of the stuff and swept and mopped there and tomorrow i am going to set it up. I havent even ordered the incubator or brooder and i am setting it up already, i am crazy but i have to do it now or i am never going to... I am so excited already !!!
I dont have my own cat but i do have a miniature hamster, if that counts.
lol.png

I love it to sooo much, i dont know what i would do without my animals. I bet your attic is like my basement, we have to clean that out to eventually but who has time.
hmm.png

I went to check my two hens, the one wasnt in her nest like always and the other had one egg in her water bowl, another way in the corner and then the rest buried under sawdust and they were all freezing cold.

This year i am not having the best of luck with my hens.
I will post a picture of the brooder, without the actual brooder in it tomorrow, if i have time to set it up.
How are the chicks??

I can't wait for you to get it set up!
tongue.png
I had mine set up like two weeks before my chicks even came! LOL, chick fever!
ooohh! mini hamster! little fuzz butt!
love.gif
The only inside pet we have now is our ferret, Felix. The girls are wanting a goldfish so we might end up with a few of those. My DH won't go for any more "rodents". I had a big fat peach colored hamster he found in an apartment that was abandoned (he used to be a maintenance supervisor)but it died a few years ago and we never got another.
sad.png

Not having the time is the only excuse I've got left to avoid that attic!
tongue.png
Ugh, it looks like a hoarder lives up there! I'ts worse after that fiasco with that cat! I knocked over so much stuff trying to catch her it's just ridiculous now!
An egg in the water bowl??? HAHA, I wonder how she got it in there of all places!
The little chicks are doing good. I split my coop up and now Ginger and Georgie are in charge of their 2 chicks and the older chicks. They all seem to be getting along good so I'm glad for that! I'll post some pics 2morrow!

Today i am going to get the inculator and some wood chips and set that brooder up!!
celebrate.gif

My mini hamsters name is Mac

The pic was taken a while ago, almost a year but he looks the exact same now anyways.
We used to have a guinea pig but he died as well, after Mac dies i dont want anything that lives for like a year, because i get to upset when they die.

I dont even want to talk about those dumb hens anymore, i probably wont get any chicks out of them anyway, i just feel bad for the babies inside of the eggs...
Roxy had a bath yesterday so she gets to come up on my lap and as i am writing to you she is sitting on me sleeping.
big_smile.png

I am glad that you are having better luck with you hens, are Ginger and Georgie sharing the two chicks?
I 'll post some pics when the brooder is set up!!

That little hamster is the cutest!I
I feel bad for the little babies in the eggs too! 3 chicks out of those 9 eggs! I had to toss the others, it made me feel bad.
sad.png
I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes. Your lucky you get to have an incubator, you'll get to hatch chicks anytime you want!
Aww! Nice clean doggie in your lap! How sweet!
love.gif

Yep, Ginger and Georgie seem to be sharing. The little chicks are even out eating and drinking right with the bigger chicks. I was worried the bigger ones might trample or pick on the little uns but so far so good!
thumbsup.gif

Here's a pic of the maternity half of the coop. I let them have the roosting room and part of the scratching room and made the big chickens a smaller area by the coop door. I used chicken wire so maybe if everyone can see each other they'll start to get used to each other.I split the chicken yard too. That pic next to the coop pic is some of the bigger chicks taking dust baths in their half of the yard. I throw ash from the woodstove and sawdust and dirt in that trough for them to roll around in. The bottom right pic is the inside of the roosting room where the nest box is now. That other pic is one of my salmon favs and one of the speckled sussex. I just liked the pic!

Oh such adorable pics...

Sorry i havent replied in a while but i took the eggs from the hen and you can read the rest https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/786491/help-please#post_11298104. The little one is still hanging on but i really wish he would pip a hole threw the egg.
hmm.png
Next time i say i dont have time you have to tell me to make time, ok because if i "dont have time" disasters like this happen. All night i couldnt sleep because of that little chick, i was hoping i would wake up and find him hatched so every hour i would get up and check on him and if i slept a bit in between that time i was dreaming that he had hatched so i would wake up and go check on him. If i am going to be in the "incubating business" i have to be tougher.
he.gif

I love your coop, how did you make that little dog house plastic thingy?
tongue.png

Back to the little chick, i dont have a thermometer or a hygrometer so i have no idea if the heat and humidity are right and i really dont want him to die because i already named him, if he is yellow or black Oliver and if he is brown or red Buttercup.
lol.png

I went to check on my other hen and i was going to put Oliver/Buttercup under her because he/she has a better chance of hatching under her and she had left her eggs...
he.gif

I am going to kill those two hens! Just kidding, but it did cross my mind.

What happened with the little chick??? Did Oliver/Buttercup hatch? I don't know when you posted that so I don't know if there's still time to save it if it hasn't! I've been reading into this incubating business and I saw that there's things you can do to help if it's not making it on it's own. If it's already broke thru into the aircell and it looks like it's not going to pip, you can pip the shell for it. just make a little hole so it can get fresh air. The chick has to have absorbed the yolk tho before you do that. I found an awesome article in one of my old poultry mags and it talked all about incubation and hatching and all the inbetween stuff, what can go wrong, what to do if something goes wrong, humidity, temp... I wish I had read it a long time ago! Let me know what's happening! I can't stand it that I couldn't get on here for all this time! My fingers are crossed for little Oliver/Buttercup!
fl.gif
Your right tho about being tough! I used to get sooo upset whenever I lost an animal, I still do but I've learned to handle it better. If there's one thing I've learned living where and how we do it's that dying is just part of it. I feel better thinking that their little spirits are all running around here together until the next go round. And sometimes I think it happens for a reason. There's been times when I'll lose someone or they come up missing but the next week there's someone needing a home. I think nature has a way of keeping everything in balance. Not trying to sound like a hippie!

LOL, I'll make sure to tell you to make time next time!
I've been having dreams about my chicks since I put them out in the coop full time! I dream all sorts of terrible things are happening and get up and have to go check! My DH is about to the end of his patience I think! I got up at like 4 in the morning last night because I thought I heard Rinty barking(not his "barking just to bark" bark but his "there's something out here!" bark) but I must have been dreaming it 'cause he was sleeping in his house when I went out there. And of course then I have to hear "what in the world are you doing? Nothing's bothering those @#$% chickens! I've got to get up in 2 hours..." sigh. what a grouch.
tongue.gif

That plastic dog house thing is actually half of a dog crate with my little greenhouse stuck into the top of it! I figured it was roomy, waterproof and it gave the chicks a place to feel secure in. I ended up putting it in the nest room for them to roost in at night. They don't use it tho! They all roost on top of the nest box and some wooden corn crates that are in there. Go figure. I'll probably end up using the greenhouse part to grow a little garden under in thier yard then take it off and let them eat in it when it's ready.
I know how frustrating it can be when some of your chickens aren't behaving! Ginger and Georgie have taken after yours now and have been leaving those eggs to get cold! Argh! I'm going to have to make me a homemade incubator if I ever want those EE eggs to hatch! Although if that SSHamburg turns out to be a roo(I still can't tell and it's driving me crazy!) I might try to get him hooked up with my EE's and see what turns up. I don't think I can wait that long tho!
tongue.png
I'm going to look online and see what all goes into making an incubator. Then I'll try to figure out how to hide it before the DH nips that in the bud. He has been wanting some turkeys tho, maybe I could say I want it to hatch some turkey eggs! I hadn't thought of that! Now I'm excited, I might be able to pull it off!
Did you get your brooder set up? I've got to take the girls to their softball games later, but I'll check back in later tonite! I want to know if the chick is OK!
