Is incubation time for eggs the same when they're under a broody hen as when they're in an incubator

He died today, in my hands...
Oh no! That's just terrible! I'm so sorry, what a sad day! And after all he went thru to get here! I hope you find a nice spot to put him, put a little flower in with him from his chick friends here! You should scratch his name on a pretty rock and put it on his spot. That's about to make me cry, bless his fuzzy little heart.

I just hate it when little ones go. At least he was happy while he was here, he had it made with you taking care of him!

I put him in a little wooden box and wrote his name on it and i buried him beside my 14 year old dogs grave to keep him company.

I like the rock idea, i am going to do it!
The worst part is that the day before i was 99% sure he was going to live because he was standing on his one foot and eating sooo much but yesterday when i went to check on him he wasnt peeping a lot and wouldnt eat anything and was very cold, so i picked him up, lied down and put him under my chin like he likes and then i looked at him about 20 minutes later and he was dead. I cried like a baby all night...

Poor little thing. That's good that you put him next to your dog, they can keep each other company. It's so hard to have to bury animals! I always go out and pick a pretty rock from one of my flowerbeds and write their name on it and put it on them. You could do one for your dog too. The best thing to do when you lose someone is to go out and spend time with the ones still here. It always makes me feel better to curl up with a cat purring in my ear or go out and play with the dog or just sit and watch the chickens peck about. That and you can make plans for some new chicks!

We got a new dog yesterday. He's a german shepard. The lady that had him couldn't keep him anymore because of allergies. He's only 2 but big as a horse! he makes Rinty dog look like a puppy! Real smart too.

Hey! I've been meaning to ask you if you'd take a pic of your big chickens and your coop? I'm not trying to be nosy, well I am I guess, but I'm just curious, not trying to be annoying!

I get into coop redo mode and I like to look at the different ways people setup their chickens! My coop has sprung a big leak in the roof so I'm either going to have to reroof it or tear down the part that's bad and rework it. Either way when I have to change one thing it makes me want to change everything.

Last night i didnt cry as much.

I have a pretty rock somewhere i think, i will find it and scratch his name on it and put it on his little grave so i know were he is, i dont think i have any other nice ones so i will just have to go to the beach and find one with Roxy.
I know what you mean, Roxy was with me when it happened and she new something had happened so she kept following me but she was very dirty (because she had gone outside with Balto and the chickens) so i gave her a bath and then we cuddled all day.

She is great and so is Balto but i had cleaned the house so i didnt feel like having dog hair on the carpet.
That dog is GORGEOUS what is his name?
How many animals do you have (not counting your chickens) ?
I am going to order the brinsea starter pack, origionally i was going to order it from amazon but it didnt deliver here so i found a site that does deliver here so i am going to order it soon i am hoping...
The little place that i had set up in the garage is now looking better, i put a crate over the inculation but it has to many holes that the chicks will be able to fit through so i am going to patch that up with some cardboard and i will see what happens.
Of course i will take a picture of it for you but you will have to wait a bit because my dumb camera is broken and i am getting it fixed so who knows how long that will take...
I will take a picture of the coop and of the brooder to be.

I don't know what it is about dogs, but they always know when something is wrong! It makes a person feel good that they're there for you no matter what it is that's bothering you! A walk on the beach sounds AWESOME!

You could even find a neat piece of driftwood and put his name on it. I love looking for stuff on the beach. I haven't been to a beach in years tho!
I know what you mean about hair all over! It's like a losing battle around here!

It's like a zoo. We've got 7 cats right now and one is getting ready to have her first litter of kittens any day now, so that number is going to go up. Their names are: Jake Paws (who's actually a girl), Daisy (who's actually a boy), Dottie(she's the one that's getting ready to pop) Duckie(he's named after my favorite cat who I lost 2 years ago, His name was Duckie because when I saved him he was bright yellow like a rubber duck after he got cleaned up), Ellie Paws(the attic cat), Shelby and Frosty (the two kittens we kept from the last two litters). Phew! There's another tomcat that hangs around every once in a while that we call Neighbor Cat. So it's 8 if you count him. We have two dogs now( the new dog's name is Buddy, not crazy about it, but the dh says we shouldn't change his name and confuse him). There's the one ferret, Felix. So there's 10/11 non-chickens. Now when you figure in the chickens! There's 32 of them. I won't list their names, you'd be reading for an hour! LOL. You know some of them already anyway. I'm hoping that number will go up when I figure out how to incubate some eggs tho!

So the animal grand total:42/43. We've had all kinds of animals over the years and just when we think we can't handle anymore, someone finds their way here! I even raise orphaned wild animals when they need a mama for awhile. Bunnies, birds, a racoon 2 summers back...Unfortunately it's usually my cats that make them orphans in the first place!

Neato, a starter pack! Does it come with extras then? I'd definitely cover the holes in the crate! I never expext the chicks to be able to escape but they can jump and fly so quick it's crazy! I came home one day with the ones I had in the house and they had ALL escaped from the brooder and were everywhere! Perched in the window, on the table and chairs, up on the woodstove and firewood...That was a mess! I made sure to not underestimate them again! Those are already flying up on the fence outside and it's 5 foot tall. I think I'm going to have to clip their wing feathers like I do the big hens so no one escapes while I'm not out there.
I went out yesterday and planted some veggies and sunflowers for them to munch on later. I made some chicken wire hoops ( I may have said this before but I'm going to say it again, A person can NEVER have too much chicken wire! That stuff is like gold to me!

) and put the plants in the hoops so they couldn't eat them down before they have a chance to grow. I do a seed exchange in the winter and grow all my veggies and flowers myself, so I get pretty mad if something ruins the plants I spent so much time growing! I can't just go and get new ones so I take extra precautions when I plant stuff out! I've been trying to find some bushes or something like that to plant in there that will come back every year and that they can't tear up. I put a butterfly bush in there last year that's coming back and they haven't pecked it bare yet, and some fountain grass(that I had to dig up with an ax it was rooted so deep!) but they scratched out all but one clump of it. I figure the more plants, the more bugs and food and shade in the summer and windbreak in the winter. Plus it makes it look nicer I think!

Getting a drink! I think the lighter colored one is going to be peachy colored like Georgie. Maybe. Nott sure about the darker one. Maybe it'll look like Ginger, maybe some other color that's lost in their genes somewhere. I'm hoping they end up being hens too. The more girls sitting on eggs the better!
