Is it a bad sign for an internal layer/ egg yolk peritonitis?

My boyfriend had liver cancer. While waiting for his transplant he suffered with ascities. The Dr drained his fluids several times. I admire your tenacity, you are braver than me!

Oh... I am sorry, enola.. Big hugs to you, too.

I am not brave.. because I haven't done it yet. :) I am probably in the same feeling with you now.

I just finished draining my hen and thought I should share the pictures. Unfortunately, I think she has laid internally as I felt something floating in her abdominal cavity.

Started her on Baytril at 20mg/kg, so we'll see how she does. Will also tube some much needed fluids to her, then fluids and food. Pictures are graphic, so please don't look unless you have the stomach for it.

Hen was cleaned with Chlorhexidine, had a 1" 18 gauge needle inserted and I syringed out about 500 ml of fluid.

Note that I did not remove the needle once I stuck it in, I just kept removing and emptying the syringe. Her breathing was noticeably better once I got the fluid out.

It is very nice to have somebody who have the same pains and feelings for our pets, that encouraging me. I am able to be strong . :)

I only have 16G x 1" needles. I am going to get the same one that you have.

I have given Deckie Baytril for 7 days this time, which ended yesterday.
She breathes better right now, but more likely she will be worse in 14 days, that will be the time to drain her.

Thank you for all your help, Kathy.

16 would be even better and that's what I would have used if I had them!
