Hey everyone and thanks for letting me on to the forum.

I have recently obtained two rescue chicks, i have been told they could be absolutely anything as the the person i rescued them from went round collecting eggs from anywhere he could and incubated them, he is now in trouble with the rspca as was over run.

I think one of the chicks is a cockeral and the other i have no idea,

So any ideas anyone?

Many thanks for all your help in advance!

Thanks for you replys everyone, Lucy is indeed very friendly. I was hoping Ollie wasnt a cockeral, the only thing that led me to think he might be is his size compared to Lucy.

I have been saving up to buy them an eglu as mum doesnt want them in the house. but now im not sure if ollie is a leghorn cockeral, would he be able to fit in an eglu? what do all reccomend?

Both Lucy and Ollie adore one another. when we have them out they always go around together and get annoyed if the cant be together. It often seems like Ollie is Lucy's protector lol.

:)

Don't even bother with the Eglu. It costs entirely too much.

Just get a cheaper dog house (Igloo) and remove the front "flap" of the dog house.

Yep, he'll be able to fit inside no problems.

You have a Leghorn cockerel and a Barred Plymouth Rock pullet, just likes speckledhen said.

The only thing that confuses me is that I changed computers and now, I see brown feathers on the hackle area of the BR. That is odd, unless it's just this monitor. My other monitor didnt show it. Usually, if there are brown feathers like that, the BR isn't pure, or it's a black sexlink cockerel, however, that is way dark for a cockerel.
Now, I did hatch some Silver Phoenix over BR hen chicks once. The cockerels looked just like BR pullets with ghosty barring like yours has. It wasn't till they were about five weeks old that I realized, with the reddening combs, that they were actually crossbreed cockerels.

You are she has just started to get brown type feathers round the neck! ooooo i hope to god i havnt got 2 cockerels! i couldnt bare getting rid off one of them! I really hope the blacky one is not a cockerel as it looks likely that ollie is! :,,-(

The comb is still small on that one, so it's probably still a girl, but just some odd genes in her background are popping out. As always, time will tell. Below is the Silver Phoenix/BR cross cockerel I mentioned. No one would think that was anything except a BR pullet, right? Nope, had three of them and they had a sister, who was solid black. Boys get barring from the mama.
