Is it better to ...

have your incubator at the desired temp before you put your eggs in? Or put your eggs in and then turn on the incubator so the temp gradually increases? I would think it be a shock to go from room temp, straight into 99.5 degree bator...

Any thoughts?

I've always read to have the incubator at the desired temp when you set the eggs. Otherwise, you could be wasting time getting it to hold the correct temp consistently.

The temp change won't shock the egg--there's nothing to shock. It's the same to the egg as if it's sitting out in a nest and a hen sets on it. Eggs are designed for that.

If you have an automatic turner, should it be turned on right away when you set the eggs in the incubator??

I don't think that matters much either. But I've never used an automatic turner, so don't really know. What do the instructions say???

I have read if the eggs are at room temp then that is the way to go

I haven't used an auto turner, but I don't think that matters so much, they can start turning after you set them.
