Is it just a mutt? Pic Added!

RAREROO
I did notice that it did look like a salmon colored pattern with autosomal red

Thats what I kinda thought.
Just enhance the color some

I do not think this bird is blue, but a silver partridge showing autosomal red. may very well have a blue gene but the bird is a red calico.
sections of color brightly defined
such as a cat with a mottled coat of black, brown, yellow or orange, etc.

Thanks everyone! Great info. Lots to think about and options to consider. I'm thinking he's probably going to become my first project

Since there is no written standard on what is being called calico's, I suppose one could call a calico whatever they choose until there is some type of written description on them. Every calico that I have had hatch was from a male that carries autosomal red. The only written description that I know of, for calico, is on cats, though I could be wrong on that, may be some other type of critter that has a calico color, but I don't know of any. I would think the description for that color would also be the color that would be a correct description for a chicken. The color description for a calico cat is as follows and oddly enough, almost all calico cats are female, with the exact opposite in poultry.

Calico:
Separate solid blocks of color, which must include red (orange), black, and white. They also may have blocks of tabby pattern

I mean, calico is what he looks like to me. He puts me in mind of a calico cat and honestly that's the only thing he really compares to in my opinion. But I don't know about all the genetics involved. I guess I will just have to wait and see what I can create out of him. Thank you for sharing your picture. He's beautiful! Can't wait to see what hens I can put with him and what I'll get!

George is the one who first used the term calico with silkies, so I stick to his description as being splash with red. Yes, calicos all have autosomal red. I tried taking photos of my cock, but he did not want to stand still and with dusk plus that they all came out looking off, and not representative of him at all. I've had calico girls, but have none at the moment. They tend to show red predominantly on their breasts, and typically in a less intense depth of colour. This is a backburner project; I have a pen set up and keep those that I like the looks of and sell or give away those that don't. Not focusing on it, but it's there and moving forward pretty much on its own.

True, all calico's do have autosomal red. I too have had several females but the color was not predominantly on the chest but more evenly spread throughout the body with red blotches in the crest, I agree their coloring is not nearly as intense as the males color, but I believe the majority of calico's that are hatched are males as you rarely see photos of calico females and 90% of what I have hatched here have all been males. I have had some females with white, but very few. I do not breed for calico's as my color goal. They are simply test breedings and most are given away as pets to children. I kept this male simply because I love his color pattern. I have no idea what I am going to do with him, for me, he serves no purpose for breeding, so for now, he is just a pretty boy to look at. LOL
