Is it just my Barred Rocks?

I know every chicken is different and that not all birds of the same breed act the same way. But both of my Barred Rocks Curly & Lady act in very similar ways. All my chickens greet me and are relatively noisy but the BRs especially make me aware of their presence lol. Also they're the biggest birds in the flock yet they're pretty much the lowest on the pecking order (even my blind GLW is higher than them ). But not to mention they're the sweetest girls ever and will cooperate with most everything. And they'll follow me too (which isn't just them actually, sometimes I have a huge group of chickens following behind me and I don't even have treats! Lol). Just some personal observations of mine and wondering if others have similar experience with theirs.
In any case, my BRs are sweet and they make me laugh.

Well, my neighbors' two Barred Rocks--while not having thee exact same personality (duh )--are pretty similar in looks and personality. =D And I like them both, though I probably do prefer one over the other, as one is a bit bolder. And it's funny, 'cause they like to get on our deck like they own it. But my mom doesn't find it funny, 'cause sometimes they leave some waste behind. =P
And my favorite one, like I said, is possibly the boldest, as she got the courage to eat from my hand after weeks of trying to 'hand tame' them, and now they all come up and eat from my hand if they see food on it and I lay it near the ground. It's fun to watch.

I'm glad you're enjoying your barred rock, they are such a pretty breed. Mine, unfortunately, is quite the little stinker. She is mean to her flock mates and has become a bit of a bully. She does lay well, and I love her even though she's got a little attitude on her I am hoping it's just a phase.

Wow that's interesting. Definitely different behavior from mine. The only bully-like chickens I have are one of the white Leghorns and a Speckled Sussex. Hopefully she'll learn to interact with others better.

Haha yes I relate to having to clean up "waste" left behind by my chickens and turkeys when, occasionally, one or two explore the porch or even inside the house.

I agree, it's totally not the norm for her breed. She just started laying a few weeks ago and that's when she really started acting up. Could this be the reason? I always thought hens kind of calmed down once they reached the point of lay, but not this girl!

My barred rocks are my sweetest girls for sure! They all follow me around as well and will jump onto my arm to eat treats from my hands lol. When younger one would fly onto my shoulder whenever I went into the coop lol. My only bully is my FBCM she's a brat but we love her anyway.

we have 3 br hens that look so much alike that we put leg bands on two of them and still just call them “the triplets” and they are at the very top of the pecking order

Mine have never been shrinking violets, not the hatchery hens I used to have, nor the two heritage lines I have now. They push their weight around, which is fine with me-somebody has to be on top! But, every one is not the same. Some are more dominant than others in a group. I love Barred Rocks, always will. All are friendly hens (and roosters)
