Is it normal for a hen's first egg to be a double yolker?

My arucana hen's(Henny Penny)first egg was HUGE and had two yolks in it. She has laid 3 double yolked eggs total. Now she is laying regular single yolked eggs. She shows she wants to lay but ends up not laying that day when she is going to lay a double yolked egg. Usually the next day she ends up laying a big egg. Do arucanas normally lay double-yolked eggs a lot?

Yup, perfectly normal for all pullets. It can take a few months for them to get the kinks worked out. They should become few and far between after a while.

When pullets start laying they dont always get it right, you might get double yolkers, shelless eggs, weird shaped eggs, half colored eggs, and even weird colored eggs, and thats all normal because they're just starting and getting the hang of it.
Atho there are some chickes that will lay those kind of eggs even as they mature but its all good no worries, it all depends on the bird itself.

I have a similar question. I have 6 hens and 5 are laying consistantly now. They are only 23 weeks. My black astrolorp however seems to have laid a huge double yolk egg more than a week ago and has not layed since. Anything to be concerned about? She acts fine. Sorry to hijack the post! Thanks so much!

One of my silkies laid an egg smaller than a quail egg. She did all the sittin in the nest for hours and the whole bit. It was smaller than her poop.

I wonder if she sat there so long because she didn't know she laid it.

All of my first RIR eggs were double-yolked. Silkies haven't started laying yet, hope their eggs aren't smaller than their poo!!!!!!!

It took nearly 2 months to get 1 fertile eggs from my silkies and it didn't hatch but the next batch after that did. The last batch I had about as many quitters as I did clears. But they are all only 7 months old including the roo so i'm not complaining. At least i'm getting chicks now.
