Is it normal for a peeped chick to stay still?

It pushed off a big piece of shell, so I ripped a little tissue that had no veins. I’ve lubricated it well with coconut oil at this new area.
Though when I saw it’s eye open, it looked like the dead fetuses I’ve been getting. I’m wondering if that’s normal or if it’s blind?
But anyways I’m glad it’s making progress
Progress! You can do it, little buddy!

The eye - you might have seen the second eyelid. Chickens have two eyelids on each eye - an outer eyelid that’s skin, and an inner one that’s a thin, semi-opaque milky membrane. It’s most visible when you are taking pictures of your chickens and you happen to click at just the right moment. Then the chicken in the photo looks terrifyingly possessed 😄

It hatched! Thank you for helping me out with this tricky process, I couldn’t have done it without you guys.

I’m hoping that this will suck in eventually. Now I just gotta see what humidity to leave him in there for and for how long

It’s at 65% with it being 100.5 degrees Fahrenheit. I put coconut oil on it’s exposed skin, and as much as I could above and below the tissue I’m able to see

It’s still swallowing and makes noise when I lubricate it

It's been a few hours, Sorry I missed it! How is he doing now?

is his tummy still open? If his tummy still isn't looking good, I would suggest putting something soft under him. Perhaps put him in a little bowl lined with clean dry paper towels
His tummy is looking good! It looked like a yolk pouch last night and his belly button had some trouble. But since then it’s done a good job of sucking in and drying everything up. I did have a toilet paper sheet for his stomach to rest on at the time

Looks alright, still, keep a close eye and keep on something soft if you can, just to prevent him knocking it! Congrats btw 😁

Looking good! I once had a chick with a belly button like that. It was redder, even. Healed up just fine and he grew up into a beautiful cockerel.

You can probably take this guy out in another couple of hours, no need to wait for a full 12. He won't be able to dry fully in the incubator, because the humidity is so high. I find that once they are *mostly* dry, they dry up the rest of the way much faster if I take them out, otherwise they can stay looking somewhat damp for quite a while in there.

The chick I had with the red belly button, I kept him in the incubator longer so the other chicks wouldn't peck at him. I think it was a full 24 hours or thereabouts. He ended up developing pasty butt as a result, because it's too hot in the incubator for hatched chicks, and he got dehydrated. So keep that in mind as well.

He’s fluffier now and has an interest in eating. I’ve moved him over to the brooder to dry out better as recommended. He’s got one toe curled, so I’ve taped up the foot. My only concern is that his heartbeat is so loud and hard. I’ve never hatched chicks, so I can only assume it’s a day one thing. I hear it from a distance like loud clicking
