Is it normal to be a NERVOUS WRECK?

I LOVE this thread! And i'm so glad you posted it Amylou. We are getting 8 chicks on April 5th and I had no idea it was so nerve-wracking. I'm glad to know ahead of time! I'm also a little bummed, my new son has just started letting us sleep all night, and now it sounds like I will be awoken by the new additions very soon. Anyway, congrats on your new chicks. What breeds did you get?

I love the falling asleep standing up and falling over... necks all over each other... you will get through this... and get more and more and more and each time you worry less and know it isn't that hard and they survive much better without every single bell and whistle and watchful eye... sometimes things happen, but for the most part we're all learning as we go and it continues to amaze me how chicks taken from their mamas at a day old figure life out all on their own pretty well. Don't let them get too hot (I find that cooler is better than too hot... as long as they have a place to get warm and a place to get away from the heat if they are too hot0, give them food and water and they should be fine.

So far I've been lucky... out of 21 babies at different times I haven't had any issues... I'm sure if I was able to have greater numbers my odds would fare a little worse, but I think far more than none the chances are your babies will all be ok.

Cute babies!
