Hello,

I don't even want to candle the eggies, I'm sooooosososo scared that none'll hatch. The missap on day two made it worse (the temp spiked 108-110 for about three hours), but even if that DIDN'T happen... This is my first time, so I have NO idea what to expect. I range from being pessimist, to realist, to optamist. If it deals with having something happen, like a friend coming over, or getting a report card, (or hatching CHICKIES) I like to set my expectations nice and low, so that when the results come out in the open, I won't be dissapointed.

All I'm using to candle is hardly good--A smallish flashlight (the only one my little brother hasn't wrecked) and a toilet paper tube roll. I haven't even dared cadling, I'm just afraid I'll see nothing but yolk, and that'll drive me nuts. I keep thinking NONE will HATCH.

thanks
jackyjoy

108-110 degrees for 3hrs is a death sentence to chickens eggs, & other eggs.

It won't hurt to candle, I understand how it is to be a rookie hatching eggs.

Are you using separate Hygrometers, & Thermometers in the incubator? The built in ones, usually are not great.

I once had a 129°F temperature spike in my junky incubator. I used to have a picture, but I think I accidentally deleted it.

I have had a power outage and my incubator went down to 78ºF. It happened sometime during the night so I don't know how long the power was off before I noticed, but when I noticed the power was off I immediately went to check the incubator and I did candle some of the eggs. Surprisingly I saw some movement and got the temp back up by using a battery pack and an inverter. Luckily I still had a good hatch. You will have to check the eggs sometime. I would rather know then assume. You never know until you check. Good luck...

candling is super easy. You candle on day 1 and will jsut see blobs, you candle on day 5 and you should see some development. After 7 days you will be sure. If you don't candle after that anymore that is fine but I would candle in the first week cause otherwise you will potentially waste 2+ further weeks waiting for nothing.
I mean either they are developing or they are not and it makes little difference if you candle or not but if you don't candle like said you will just waste a fair bit of electricity and time for nothing.

Also it is better to be dissapointed now than wait 2 weeks to be more dissapointed

After looking at the posters other threads, they all have identical copies in the 'similar threads' section. I'm guessing this is a troll.
